2023 has been a particularly stylish year for Kate Middleton. A royal expert noted earlier in the year that she had seen a shift in her style since stepping into her role as the Princess of Wales following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II, and we’re certainly inclined to agree!
However, one thing that has not changed is the 41-year-old mom-of-three’s ability to rock smart casual ensembles such as jeans and a sharp blazer (which often hail from her high-street fave, Zara) and also full-on royal regalia, like the stunning outfit she wore to King Charles’ coronation back in May, with just as much class and effortlessness. How does she do it?!
Another thing we adore about Kate’s style is that she isn’t afraid to experiment with color – something she may have picked up from the late Queen, who always favored bright and bold hues – so many of our favorite looks come in an assortment of different colors. Take a look at some of Kate Middleton’s best style moments of 2023 below…
Red Catherine Walker Coat Dress And Cape To Welcome President And First Lady Of South Korea
The Princess of Wales has had quite a few cape moments this year, but the stunning red caped ensemble she wore to welcome President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, and his wife, First Lady Kim Keon Hee, to the U.K. is still living rent free in our minds. She recycled the red Catherine Walker 'Beau Tie' coat dress she previously wore to her 2021 Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey and teamed it with a new bespoke red wool cape by Catherine Walker & Co, also in the same shade. She accessorized with a red Jane Taylor wide-brim hat, a Miu Miu bow embellished suede clutch, and Gianvito Rossi 105 heels.
White Self-Portrait Two-In-One Dress For The National Portrait Gallery Grand Reopening
Kate pulled out all the stops to attend the grand reopening of the National Portrait Gallery, of which she is a patron, on Tuesday, July 4th. She looked breathtaking in a two-in-one white Self-Portrait dress featuring an elegant pleated midi skirt and a matching white and black bouclé jacket. She accessorized her chic and sophisticated monochrome ensemble with a small black quilted Chanel clutch bag and Aquazurra 'Bow Tie' black slingback heels.
Pink Alexander McQueen Suit To The Foundling Museum
Every single A-lister tried out the Barbiecore trend this year in preparation for Greta Gerwig's highly-anticipated Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling – and the Princess of Wales was no exception! One of our favorite looks of the year came when the Princess of Wales visited the Foundling Museum in central London on May 25th, wearing a sharp and feminine pastel pink Alexander McQueen pantsuit which consisted of cropped tailored trousers, and a single breasted wool blazer with wide shoulder pads. She finished off the outfit with a matching pink shirt underneath, a waist-cinching white Camilla Elphick belt with a gold and pearl buckle, and white Gianvito Rossi heels.
Green Andrew Gn Coat Dress For 2023 Trooping The Color
Easily one of our favorite outfits of the year, without question, is the green coat dress from the 2023 Trooping the Color event back in June. The emerald green piece was by Singapore-born designer Andrew Gn, and many royal fans believed that the Princess of Wales chose an outfit in the striking green color to honor the Irish Guards, after she became a patron earlier in the year. She accessorized her breathtaking ensemble with a green Philip Treacy hat and matching green suede heels, as well as Princess Diana's sapphire-and-diamond earrings to complement the blue detailing on the ensemble's buttons.
Camel Roland Mouret Power Suit For 'Streets Of Growth' Charity Event
The Princess of Wales has wowed us in many chic power suits this year, and the one she wore to an event for Streets of Growth, a charity focused on youth and community development, is among our favorites. Neutral tones such as tan, camel, and latte have been some of *the* biggest colors of the year, so it doesn't surprise us to see the ever-stylish Duchess of Cambridge rock them too. Her simple yet chic outfit consisted of a tan blazer and matching flared trousers, both by Roland Mouret, teamed with a white T-shirt underneath. She finished the look off with some matching nude-colored Gianvito Rossi pumps.
Pink Sequin Jenny Packham Dress At The 2023 Diplomatic Reception
Kate Middleton and Jenny Packham are a match made in sartorial heaven, and we are never disappointed when the Princess of Wales steps out in one of the designer's jaw-dropping pieces. One of the latest dresses to render royal fans speechless was the sparkly pink Jenny Packham gown she wore to the 2023 Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December, accessorized with Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara and Queen Elizabeth's chandelier earrings.
White Alexander McQueen Gown With Black Opera Gloves At The 2023 BAFTAs
Wearing a recycled dress doesn't mean that it has any less wow factor, which Kate proved when she re-wore her white Alexander McQueen dress from the 2019 BAFTAs to the 2023 BAFTAs back in February. If anything, we think she elevated the look the second time around, as she added a dramatic pair of black opera-length gloves and carried a matching black clutch to make the look more monochromatic. She also wore her hair in a glamorous down do as opposed to a sleek updo like she did back in 2019, and went for larger statement earrings. While we loved both looks, we must admit that we are much more obsessed with the levelled up 2023 look!
