Kate Middleton is nothing short of a fashion icon. Her style is revered by fans all around the world, and she is known for not being afraid to repeat outfits or shop at lower-end brands. Another thing Kate is not afraid of is breaking royal tradition when it comes to clothing. One example of this is the headpiece she chose to wear to King Charles’ coronation last year. Keep reading for more information.

Kate Middleton Breaks Royal Tradition At King Charles' Coronation

The coronation of King Charles back in May of 2023 was an extremely important event for the royal family, and everyone was dressed to the nines. The Princess of Wales looked gorgeous in an ivory silk crepe gown designed by Alexander McQueen. The dress was also adorned with floral embroidery, including rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock, which is said to be a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth, whose coronation gown featured floral details.

This isn't where Kate broke royal tradition. Rather, she did so with her accessories. It is royal tradition to wear a tiara, but Kate Middleton opted for a shimmering headpiece that was also designed by Alexander McQueen, along with Jess Collett. The silver headpiece had 3D leaves in an arch shape, almost like what a Greek goddess might be pictured wearing.

Kate also accessorized with pearl and diamond earrings that belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. She also added another tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth by wearing her George VI Festoon Necklace, which was commissioned by George VI for his daughter in 1950.

The final component of Kate's coronation outfit was a formal robe called Royal Victoria Order mantle in royal blue and scarlet red. Even though she broke a small tradition, Kate looked absolutely stunning.
