It’s not often that the internet isn’t unanimous with praise for Kate Middleton’s style, but the outfit she wore when she attended the Commonwealth Day Service on Monday, March 13th alongside her husband Prince William, as well as King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla at Westminster Abbey, really divided social media!

Kate Middleton's Commonwealth Day Service Look Divides The Internet

The Princess of Wales, 41, attended the service in an Erdem Pre-Fall 2023 Ottoman jacquard peplum jacket and matching skirt, which was a very clever decision from the Duchess of Cambridge and her styling team as Erdem Moralıoğlu was born in Montreal, and Canada has ties to the Commonwealth.

The mom-of-three accessorized with a Sean Barrett hat, an Emmy London midnight blue suede clutch, and navy suede Gianvito Rossi heels, as well as the late Princess Diana's diamond and sapphire earrings – which were perfectly on display thanks to Kate's elegant low bun – and a Prince of Wales feather brooch given to her by King Charles.

We think she looked so chic, but the outfit *did* actually cause a bit of a stir on social media, with one fan even begging her to "fire the stylist." Ouch!

While almost everyone was in agreement that the Princess of Wales looked beautiful and always will be, regardless of what she wears, many people thought that this wasn’t her best look, with many others not being able to put their finger on what was causing this opinion. Some thought it was the color and the fact that the different shades of blue didn’t complement each other, while others thought the silhouette partly caused by the peplum was to blame.

Negative Fan Comments: 'This Outfit Ages Her'

"She never looks bad, she’s amazing, but wouldn’t say this is one of my favorite looks on her," one fan wrote, which another replied to saying that they "agree," while another said, "Me too. Not my [favorite.]" "She looks pretty but she had better looks," said another, while someone else said that "something looks wrong."

"The structure of the outfit looks nice but the print is a no. The color looks kind of washed out against the print. The accessories are all different blues. It’s a bit wrinkled in places. It’s just a lot at once," commented another fan, while another chimed in: "Peplum does suit her silhouette but there's a lot going on! Many shades of navy, the boning details and the print! Also, the hat doesn't go with the ensemble, fabric and color wise. A shorter skirt would've worked better."

Other fans were a little harsher, with many thinking the outfit was aging. "Old granny vibe," criticized one fan. "Makes her older by 20 years," noted another. "This outfit ages her so bad. This look is perfect for someone in Princess Anne's age group. I like the hat but big yikes," wrote another. "The dress is very old fashioned for pretty Kate," another fan said, while another quipped, "I think the royal dresser forgets she’s a person not a window that needs curtains." "I was so disappointed in her choice today. Frumpy, maybe? Colors? It’s not working," added another.

"Yikes! Big no for me. This doesn’t even look like her style," slammed another. "I don't like this. Maybe with more minimal accessories but the mismatched blue isn't working," thought another fan.

More Positive Fan Comments: 'Stunning!'

Now let's take a look at some of the more positive comments for the Princess's outfit. "Stunning! Love everything but the hat. Wish [the] hat was white. But gorgeous as usual," one fan complimented, followed by a heart eyes emoji. "She looks absolutely incredible! Such a regal woman, absolutely fit to be the next Queen," wrote another, followed by several fire emojis.

"Have to have this," one fan raved, followed by the red heart emoji and two fire emojis. "You look gorgeous in the peplum skirt suit," praised another, followed by the fire emoji and the heart eyes emoji. "I really like this look. Not sure why she's getting so much hate," said another fan. "Gorgeous! She is giving me a vintage Dior vibe!" exclaimed another, followed by four red heart emojis, while another applauded her style "risks," adding: "I honestly really like that she’s taking risks with her looks and giving us [something] fresh. Killed it."
