After wowing fans in a green Alexander McQueen coat while attending the University of Leeds a few months ago, Kate Middleton wore another ensemble in the striking color for an engagement during Mental Health Awareness Week. The fact that she chose a green dress for the occasion is thought to have some meaning, as so many of the Princess of Wales’ pieces do, as the Mental Health Foundation uses a similar shade of green for its logo. We don’t think it was a coincidence!
The Princess of Wales, 41, visited the Anna Freud Centre, of which she is a patron, on May 18th, where she met with mental health experts to discuss new research. According to the official Anna Freud Centre website: “Her Royal Highness joined Anna Freud staff, supporters and young people with lived experience of mental health challenges in a series of discussion topics including ‘How best to normalize conversations around mental health,’ ‘Building a workforce which champions early intervention,’ and ‘Whether schools can be places which build mental wellbeing.'”
Kate Middleton Wears Emerald Green Suzannah London Dress
The Princess of Wales chose a stunning emerald Suzannah London 'Flippy Wiggle' shirtdress, which is made of pure Italian silk crepe, for the occasion. The dress features half-length sleeves with an elegant button cuff, contrasting navy silk covered buttons down the middle, a detachable waist-cinching belt, and a racy leg slit, which we don’t think the late Queen Elizabeth II would have approved of as it breaks royal protocol! Yikes!
Although this isn’t the first time the Princess of Wales has worn a dress with a leg-exposing slit (her bright green Solace London dress from the Earthshot Prize Awards in Boston in 2022 springs to mind!) we do know that she regularly tailors her pieces to make them more demure and royal-appropriate.
The blue Self-Portrait midi dress she wore to an event at Buckingham Palace the day before King Charles' coronation is one example, as she tailored the dress, which traditionally comes with a racy leg-slit, to completely eliminate the slit and have as little skin exposed as possible.
The mom-of-three accessorized her look with Alessandra Rich 'Fab 85' two-tone pumps, and gold Accessorize textured drop earrings. Perhaps the Duchess of Cambridge wanted to bring down the total cost of her outfit, as the dress currently retails for $3,620 according to the official website, so going for high street jewelry seems like a great alternative to some of her more expensive, or even priceless, pieces of jewelry.
