Kate Middleton stepped out last week to honor Queen Elizabeth II in a classic black dress and debuted a stunning lighter hair color. The Princess of Wales, 40, greeted mourners at Windsor Castle over the weekend along with her husband Prince William, brother-in-law Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. While many marveled at the sight of the four royal figures together again (as rumors of a rift between the couples still simmer), others were more wowed by Middleton’s new ‘do.

The mom of three sported blonde highlights in her typically darker brown tresses, and appeared to have added more layers to her look and had a bit of length taken off. The touched-up highlights and shape of the trim elegantly framed her face, and added significant movement and volume. While we’re pretty sure Middleton got her hair professionally done, fans may remember when she hilariously joked about styling her own locks while on a video call last year for parents regarding new roles amid the coronavirus pandemic.

While fans aren’t exactly sure when Middleton got her hair done, this did mark her first outing after officially becoming the new Princess of Wales (after William’s father became King Charles III following the Queen’s passing). While speaking with Queen Elizabeth’s devotees who waited outside the castle to pay homage to her legacy, Middleton and Markle both wore sleek, long black dresses and black tights underneath, and the two princes donned classic black suits.

One anonymous source reportedly told People Magazine, “It’s such an extraordinary historical moment and also a deeply personal one for the family that you’d hope and think that all members of the family would unite and support [the King] especially.” They allegedly continued, “And perhaps some of those wounds can be healed in the process.” (Whether or not a feud is still brewing behind the scenes, we think there’s no doubt that Middleton with her new hair and Markle both looked stunning at the heartwarming event).
