Kate Middleton Is Preparing To Be Queen Amid King Charles’ Health Battle And Facing ‘Mortality,’ New Report Says

December 13, 2024 by Maria Pierides

Prince William has been preparing to become monarch for most, if not all, of his life. Kate Middleton, on the other hand, presumably only started thinking about it after she and Prince William had gotten engaged back in 2010.

However, if we are to believe recent reports, both the Prince and Princess of Wales are thinking about their futures as King and Queen of the United Kingdom more than ever at the moment, and have already started to make preparations for the transition due to King Charles’ health.

Prince William And Kate Middleton Are Reportedly 'Preparing' For Their Future Roles As King And Queen

According to People, royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing to take over the throne – a move which they weren't expecting at this point in their lives, but one which is deemed necessary due to King Charles' battle with cancer.

"Although the King is carrying out his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment," Bedell Smith said.

King Charles is indeed taking his battle with cancer seriously – despite reportedly still wanting to work more than he should! – with both him and Queen Camilla reportedly being aware of their health now more than ever.

Queen Camilla's son Tom Parker-Bowles recently told The Telegraph that both his mom and stepfather aren't taking anything for granted right now, while also revealing that his family had been invited to spend Christmas with them in Sandringham.

"It has been a hell of a two years for them. The older you get, the more conscious you become of mortality, especially with illnesses and the rest of it," he said.

Bedell Smith went on to explain that Prince William is taking on more of his father's roles at the moment, as he is still taking it easy while undergoing treatment for cancer.

"William has been taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate have been preparing for their future roles sooner than they would have expected," she continued.

Another insider echoed this, although they did confess that the mom-of-three's own battle with cancer has taken "priority" this year. "There's a sense of calm before the storm," the source said, adding: "They are next in line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate's health has taken priority, but it's also allowed everyone to take a step back and figure out what's important right now."

Kate Middleton Is Reportedly Still Taking It Easy

Although she is slowly making her way back to public life, several royal experts have predicted that Kate Middleton will understandably not be back to her usual hectic work schedule in the new year.

We can expect her to take things relatively easy as she continues to recover from her preventative chemotherapy, with the late Queen Elizabeth II's former press secretary Ailsa Anderson telling People: "They can't raise people's expectations with lots of engagements only for her to face a setback, not feel well, and things are canceled." She added: "The strategy of an unexpected visit gives her flexibility. She doesn't have the pressure of feeling she has to turn up."

Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story author Robert Hardman echoed this by speaking about the "unpredictable" nature of cancer. He also told the pub: "We are being encouraged not to look at this as a chapter that's over and then it's back to normal, because cancer doesn't work like that. The details remain private, but there's no sense of trying to gloss over the reality that it's an unpredictable disease."
