Kate Middleton expertly blends cherished royal heirlooms into her chic ensembles, often donning pieces once owned by the late Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana. For a recent appearance in London, Princess Kate donned an eye-catching, radiant violet pantsuit from Emilia Wickstead along with diamond-and-sapphire drop earrings previously owned by Lady Di.
The earrings, which once matched Diana’s iconic engagement ring (now worn by Kate, who inherited it after Prince William popped the question), were believed to be lost for many years, according to multiple outlets, until their recent appearance on Kate on November 15th.
This very set that Diana wore, as InStyle reports, was seen on various occasions, such as during her visit to Canada in 1991, gracing the cover of British Vogue in 1994, and even at the Met Gala in 1996.
Kate Middleton Shines In Princess Diana's Beloved Sapphire Dangly Earrings For London Outing
Earlier this month, Kate sported the famous jewelry set as she participated in the Shaping Us National Symposium, which was held at The Design Museum in London.
The style icon added cobalt, pointed-toe heels to complete her two-toned outfit, and wore her signature long, voluminous caramel-brown tresses down, parted in the center and styled into elegant loose waves.
As for her makeup look, the mom of three went for subtle black liner, voluminous lashes, rosy blush on her high cheekbones and a glossy pink pout to top it all off. In multiple events throughout 2023, Kate adorned herself with Diana's famed sapphire jewels, such as during the Trooping the Colour and the Commonwealth Day Service.
She had already debuted the earrings in 2022, thereby dispelling a longstanding misconception that they were "missing."
Kate, as fans and fashion enthusiasts know, has been wearing a smaller pair of sapphire-and-diamond earrings for years, leading to the belief that the original pair was missing since Diana's passing in 1997.
However, according to Lauren Kiehna, a writer and jewelry historian at The Court Jeweller blog, there are actually two different pairs of earrings involved.
As Kiehna recently told People Magazine: "The sapphires in Diana's earrings are cabochons, and the sapphires in Kate's smaller earrings are faceted. The claim has now been fully debunked as Kate has now worn the double cluster earrings."
