Prince George celebrated his tenth birthday last month (where has the time gone?!) but there are many details about the future heir to the throne’s birth that we are still finding out! And one of those details relates to the strict royal protocol Kate Middleton, 41, and Prince William, also, 41, reportedly had to follow!
According to reports, as per royal protocol, the Princess of Wales had to make sure that the current reigning monarch – who of course, was the late Queen Elizabeth II at the time – was the very first person to hear about Prince George‘s arrival into the world.
The Queen Had To Be The First Person Notified About Prince George's Birth
The staff in the delivery room of the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital in London were reportedly sworn to secrecy during and immediately after the delivery, and the new mom had to wait to tell her parents, close family and friends until it was confirmed that Her Majesty had received the news. Wow!
According to The Express, Prince William immediately called his grandmother from a specially encrypted phone to tell her the good news about the birth of her great-grandson and future heir to the throne. Only then was he able to call the rest of his and Kate's close family members and friends. The Queen also reportedly had to approve her great-grandson's name since he was a direct heir to the throne; and two days after his birth, the world was officially introduced to Prince George Alexander Louis!
Kate Middleton Previously Said Introducing Prince George To The World Was 'Terrifying'
Although it took two days for the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to reveal their firstborn's name, they introduced him to the world on the steps of the Lindo Wing – just as the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana introduced little Prince William and Prince Harry all those years ago – just one day after his birth. (He was born on July 22nd, 2013, and was introduced to the world on July 23rd.) In a 2020 interview on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, the Princess of Wales confessed that stepping out with Prince George on the steps of the Lindo Wing was "slightly terrifying, I’m not going to lie."
"Everyone had been so supportive, and both William and I were really conscious that this was something that everyone was excited about, and you know we’re hugely grateful for the support that the public had shown us, and actually for us to be able to share that joy and appreciation with the public, I felt was really important," she continued, adding, "But equally it was coupled with a new-born baby, and inexperienced parents, and the uncertainty of what that held, so there were all sorts of mixed emotions."
