Kate Middleton joined an epic sailboat race with Team Great Britain last week and donned a sporty and chic wetsuit in the process! The Duchess of Cambridge, 40, was all smiles as she took part of the event against New Zealand in the ‘Commonwealth Race’ in Plymouth, a port city in Devon, southwest England.

Middleton paired her classic fitted, bluish-gray GBR suit with a periwinkle baseball cap, navy sneakers with bright blue shoelaces, and tied her long, brunette tresses into a slicked-back high ponytail. She then joined the legendary Olympic sailor Sir Ben Ainslie and the other members of the Great Britain team. As many might recall, this isn’t the first time Middleton met Ainslie, as she attended the 2012 Olympics in London where he won his fourth gold medal and made history.

The royal, as fans will know, is no stranger to sailing, as she notably took part in a race against her husband Prince William, 40, in August of 2019. The couple competed against each other for a charity event, centered around the chance to win the King’s Cup, an iconic trophy that was first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.
Neither of the royals won the top prize, however, although William did place higher than his wife. The ever-so-classy Middleton was a good sport about it though, as the style icon collected a giant wooden spoon (which the captain of the team who finishes last receives).

According to an insider source who reportedly spoke to Vanity Fair, the royal couple continue to share their love of sailing with their 3 children— Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4. “They are very much a family of sailors now,” a source allegedly told the publication, “Kate has always been a competent sailor, and William’s pretty good too. They have enjoyed some wonderful time on the coast this summer sailing and showing the children how to steer and sail a boat.”
