Comments Katy Perry made after Meghan Markle‘s wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 have resurfaced post-coronation—and fans are praising the singer for saying that “Kate won” in the battle of the royal wedding dresses.

Katy, who attended King Charles III’s coronation on Saturday and performed in the following day’s celebratory concert, compared the dress Meghan had worn to her wedding to that worn by Kate, the Princess of Wales at her 2011 ceremony, agreeing with some critics that the fit of Meghan’s gown was not ideal for the occasion.

Katy Makes It Clear: She’s A Kate Fan

A TikTok video showing Katy’s 2018 comments about the dresses on the red carpet by user @girlbossvideos has gone viral since the coronation, with over 2 million views to date. In the video, Katy’s interview is intercut with footage of her performing at the recent coronation, and Kate’s all-smiles reaction in the audience.

The resurfaced comments were made to Entertainment Tonight on the American Idol red carpet in 2018, just after Harry and Meghan’s wedding on May 19th of that year. Of Meghan’s wedding gown, Katy said: “I would’ve done one more fitting. Kate won.”

Her reference to the dress’ fit was trigged by criticism lobbed at the gown by fashion commentators on the wedding day, who noted that in their opinion the haute couture Givenchy wedding dress Meghan donned was ill-fitting.

Commenters on the viral video have both agreed with Katy and defended Meghan about the 2018 critique: "She was right about the fitting! I liked the dress but it didn't fit," said one TikToker, adding, "and they spent a quarter of a million for it." Another responder emphasized, "Kate's dress was and is iconic."

Others commented that Katy's remarks felt "unnecessarily shady" and even that it was a "sad thing to say about someone's wedding dress." Another commenter related it to a larger societal issue: "Why do people have to constantly put women against each other?"

The Duke And Duchess Share The Same Neighborhood As Katy In California

Though the video states that the comment was a "diss" on Katy's part, the rest of the interview—which wasn't included in the viral clip—is actually pretty complimentary about the then-new Duchess of Sussex. "I don't know much about her," Katy continued, referring to Meghan. "But what I've seen or heard, whether it's been true or false, everything to me it sounds amazing and I'm so happy for them."

She also added, "It's amazing what she's doing with all her humanitarian efforts. You know, the fact that she's a proud feminist, I love all that. So, I support her as another woman and love her and wish them both well."

Nowadays Katy happens to be neighbors with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—they both live in Montecito, California, an enclave favored by other A-list celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres.

On an episode of Dax Shepard's podcast Armchair Expert, Prince Harry revealed that he actually keeps in touch with Katy's partner Orlando Bloom about security, saying, "Just what, two days ago, Orlando Bloom sent me a message, because he's just down the road. And we sort of keep in contact because of the paparazzi."

Intriguingly, Orlando voiced a satirical version of Harry himself in the animated comedy series The Prince for HBO. No word on whether Harry had a laugh about the comedic portrayal, but series creator Gary Janetti did tell Andy Cohen that "I don't know if Harry has said anything to Orlando about it, but I know before the show premiered, he was aware that Orlando was doing it. And he seemed to have a sense of humor about it."
