Katy Perry Reportedly Wants To Get Back On 'American Idol' As Her New Album '143' Flopped
An insider reportedly told Life & Style that the "Woman's World" singer may want her old job back, as her new album 143 was a huge flop.
"American Idol was a safe, steady gig for Katy," the insider began. "Now that her album has flopped, she's scrambling to reclaim her spot at the judges' table. It's a clear sign even she knows her days as a chart-topping artist are behind her."
The insider went on to note that the "Harleys in Hawaii" singer may not get her wish, as American Idol bosses and fans seem to be very excited about her replacement, Carrie Underwood. And they predicted that the mom-of-one may only get a chance to come back if the new judging panel doesn't bring in the viewers.
"Carrie's got the gig now – and unless the new season is a ratings disaster, there's no way Katy is getting back in that chair," the insider added.
Why Did Katy Perry's New Album Flop?
Another insider had some thoughts about why the "Dark Horse" singer's new album flopped, and essentially claimed that her new music was overshadowed by that of Taylor Swift's.
"Her entire category of radio pop exists in the shadow of Taylor Swift at the moment and Katy was foolish to think she could be the exception to that rule," another insider told the pub. "So, it's back to the drawing board and hopefully this time she will take less of Orlando's advice and not more of it," they added, in reference to Katy seemingly taking the advice of her fiancé, Orlando Bloom.
According to reports, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, who is the father of her daughter Daisy Dove Bloom, influenced "Katy's decision to return to her sex-appeal roots" but this seemed to fall "flat with her fans." Will she switch things up if she decides to release new music in the near future? Only time will tell!
