It’s been just over one year since Katy Perry faced criticism for taking 85-year-old disabled army veteran and businessman Carl Westcott to court after she and fiancé Orlando Bloom purchased his 1930s mansion in Santa Barbara back in 2020. The former American Idol judge famously took him to court after he changed his mind about the sale just a few days after the deal was finalized.

Westcott, who was a member of the famous 101st Airborne Division and is also the owner of 1-800-Flowers, claimed that he was not of sound mind at the time of the sale due to factors such as his age, health issues, and medication he was taking following recent back surgery. However, Katy and Orlando weren’t buying it and fought hard in court, with the court siding with Katy in November 2023 and ordering Westcott to turn over the home to her. Katy Perry Seeks $5.5M In Damages

However, that was only the beginning, as the "Woman's World" singer isn't finished with court and is demanding $5.5M from Westcott in damages. As per InTouch, Westcott's lawyers have "scoffed at the request," and reportedly fail to see where she obtained that figure from.

Westcott's lawyers reportedly revealed that Katy's business manager has largely increased the amount they are seeking, as the lawsuit initially asked for $2.67M in damages for loss of use.

The "Harleys in Hawaii" singer's manager has reportedly claimed that the Montecito home has deteriorated significantly from 2020 to 2024, saying that Westcott is to blame for it. Click here to find out all the details about this messy real estate battle.

Social Media Criticizes Katy Perry

The "I Kissed a Girl" singer, who celebrated her 40th birthday a few days ago, faced a lot of criticism last year, and it seems like she is facing just as much, if not more, this year too! Given her departure from American Idol and her failed music career, it doesn't look like 2024 is her year!

"Can she get any lower?" asked one disappointed fan in the comment section of InTouch's Instagram post. "Wow she thinks she's entitled because she's a singer. No one should do this to anyone who has dementia, it belongs to their family. She needs to leave them alone," stressed a second, as a third exclaimed: "No class or compassion!"

"Shame on her!" added a fourth fan, as a fifth slammed: "Santa Barbara doesn't want you." "Wow, I liked her before, but not any longer," wrote another former fan. "What a tasteless woman! Also Katy who?" quipped another, while someone else called her a "mean girl."

"She is attacking an army veteran, she is despicable," criticized another person, adding: "She should leave Mr. Westcott in peace to spend his time with his family. She has a stalled career and American Idol doesn't want her back."
