Kelly Clarkson’s divorce from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock has been finalized, and nearly two years after the pair initially filed to split, the 39-year-old singer found out exactly how much she’ll owe in the settlement. Blackstock has not made the separation easy on the American Idol alum, and after fighting over property and custody rights, an agreement has finally been reached.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, Clarkson will pay Blackstock a one time check of just over $1.3 million, while also paying her ex $45,601 each month for child support of their two kids, Remington and River. While monetarily this is a large hit, the couple will also share custody of their two children, with the kids living with Clarkson in her California home.
Neither Blackstock nor Clarkson have publicly spoken on the settlement, but it’s likely a relief for both. Back in July 2021, Clarkson requested that the court declare her “legally single” as she and Blackstock “both deserve the opportunity to build a new life.”
One of the major controversies within their split was who would have ownership of their Montana ranch, and while the property was purchased with Clarkson’s money, Blackstock has continued to live there throughout the duration of the divorce proceedings while working on the land.
However, Blackstock has been paying Clarkson $2,000 a month to stay on the property that she still legally owns, and will be expected to move off the premises in June. In another major fee for the divorce, Clarkson is also expected to pay Blackstock a monthly check of $115,000 in spousal support until January 31, 2024.
