During her performance, Clarkson, 41, opted for a slower, ballad-like rendition of the dance-pop hit, accompanied by a delicate piano instrumental. Showcasing her goosebump-inducing vibrato and expert breath control, Clarkson treated her live studio audience and viewers to her take on the famous tune.
After the official Kelly Clarkson Show Instagram account shared a clip of Clarkson's cover, fans headed to the comments section to share their thoughts on her spin on it.
"This shattered my soul. Never have I heard this song so heartbreaking. Literally started crying," one wrote as another added: "I was not prepared for this. INCREDIBLE."
Someone else concurred: "How does she make every song sound 10 times better?!?!" as one other fan noted: "This is a stunning version of this amazing song. Kelly, you’ve raised the bar again with the gift of your vocal prowess."
Another viewer added, regarding the mom of two's skills: "Whoever said 'once kelly covers your song, it‘s no longer your song. She makes it her own and you never get it back. She's that good,' was right."
Perry, it seems, would agree! The "Roar" hitmaker, 39, jokingly commented beneath the video: "Ok dang I can never sing that again," receiving thousands of likes and replies from fans. "You both slay," one wrote to both Perry and Clarkson as another shared a great idea, adding: "you two need to do a song together."
