Kelly Clarkson has kept the details of her divorce pretty quiet, but the singer has recently opened up about her breakup on The Kelly Clarkson Show. While interviewing Glennon Doyle, who wrote Untamed, Clarkson admitted that going through a divorce is “horrible.”

Clarkson filed for divorce from husband of 7 years, Brandon Blackstock, in June, citing irreconcilable differences. They share two children together, which Clarkson said has only made their split more difficult.

During the interview, Clarkson explained, "Glennon, you write about the public fallout from your divorce. I’m obviously going through one right now. It’s horrible."

She added, "There are so many hard parts. The hardest for me is the kids. I always think as women, especially, we’re trained ―  Alicia and I were talking about earlier ―  to take it all on and you deal with it and you’re fine, but it’s your babies that you worry about."

Doyle replied, "We’ve all been trained to believe a good mother is a liar. I didn’t leave a bad marriage in spite of being a mother ― I left because I’m a good mother. And because a good mother is a model, not a martyr."

Throughout their conversation, Clarkson also revealed a life-changing realization the singer came across while reading Doyle's work.

"It was that thing I needed to see to make a step in my life, and not just for me, but also for my current husband," Clarkson said.

She continued, "This isn’t happiness. I feel both of us deserve better. Neither one of us would want this for our children. And it was like ― reading that line so hit home for me. And not selfishly, but for the family."

It's unlikely that we will hear more from Clarkson about her divorce anytime soon, especially considering that she is trying to guard her children from hearing too many hurtful things, but maybe she'll reveal more about her personal experiences on her talk show.
