Kelly Clarkson has been noticeably absent from her talk show “The Kelly Clarkson Show” this week, with model Molly Sims and actor Kal Penn filling in for hosting duties, and fans are wondering why. Now we may finally know: according to a source that spoke with TMZ, the singer and daytime host is dealing with a “personal matter.”
The source insists that Clarkson is “completely fine,” however, and that the situation “isn’t a cause for alarm.” Phew! The lack of details about Kelly’s whereabouts has fueled speculation online this week, although we’re not sure if this vague reason for her disappearance will help that much. This all comes on the heals of reports Kelly has been working herself ‘ragged’ on her show.
Kelly Clarkson Steps Away From Talk Show
The first day that viewers of the ‘Kelly Clarkson Show’ had their favorite host call in absent was on Friday, February 28th when Roy Wood Jr. filled in. While it is not uncommon for talk show hosts to take personal time away and missing tapings (especially on a Friday), the trend continued on Monday, March 3 when Simu Liu filled in for Clarkson and revealed that he had just learned about the gig “five minutes” before taking the stage. Whoa! ‘Kelly actually isn’t able to make it today,” he started the show.
Kelly did briefly return to the show for the next two days, only to be replaced yet again by the following two shows, before being replaced once again by Roy. This is definitely when the internet reports surrounding her absence starting heating up.
TMZ Reports Reason For Her Missing Shows
Celebrity website TMZ published a report on Thursday, March 12th that Kelly's absence is due to a personal matter that "does not directly involve her," citing a source with "direct knowledge." This has assuaged some fears, but seeing as things still remain up in the air so far, and there has been no official statement from Kelly, her team or the station, the speculation about what a "personal matter" could mean prevail.
The mystery surrounding her stepping away—especially so last minute—are made more intense by the fact that she has been a consistent presence on her show since its premiere in 2019.
Kelly is the mom of two young children, River Rose, 11, and Remington "Remy" Alexander Blackstock, 9, with ex Brandon Blackstock. Kelly and Brandon's divorce over the years was fairly contentious, with the "Since U Been Gone" suing her ex for over $2.6 million and revealing in court details that he did not think she was "sexy" enough to host "The Voice." Ouch!

Fans Are Concerned—And Speculating
Following the news of Clarkson’s absence, fans took to social media to share their thoughts. Some expressed worry, while others began speculating about what the “personal matter” could be.
"I hope she is OK," one fan wrote on Page Six's Instagram post announcing the news.
"Smells like some plastic surgery speak to me," another user speculated.
"Too much Ozempic," another person commented on TMZ's Insta post, referencing the weight-loss drug that has been a topic of conversation among celebrities lately.
Despite the rumors, Clarkson has not given any indication that her absence is linked to health or cosmetic procedures. Many fans are simply hoping that she will take the time she needs—especially if it's a family matter—before returning to the spotlight. We'll be keeping our eye on this story!
