Kelly Clarkson‘s fans are losing it over her latest major announcement— her talk show is heading to New York City this fall! The Kelly Clarkson Show will move production from its current Universal Los Angeles lot to the iconic NBC Studios in 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the Big Apple for its next season.
An NBCUniversal spokesperson confirmed this to Entertainment Tonight (ET), and Variety noted that the “Since U Been Gone” singer’s show will film in Studio 6A with a live studio audience. Clarkson’s daytime talk show debuted in 2019, and was renewed through 2025 back in November 2022.
Speaking recently with TalkShopLive, Clarkson shared that the switch was made to avoid ending the show altogether. “[I talked to my staff] because I was like, ‘Guys, I need you to know what’s happening. It’s either I’m not going to be able to continue the show or I gotta go East Coast,” the singer said.
Naturally, many of Clarkson’s New York-based fans are taking to Twitter to share their excitement.
The American Idol alum’s show is in its fourth season now, and as ET points out, it opened its last two seasons with “special week-long stints” out of NYC. An insider source also reportedly dished to the publication this month that Clarkson is “ready for the move and excited for a new change.”
In January of this year, Variety reported that the Grammy winner herself (who will soon release her tenth studio album Chemistry next month) was eyeing a move for her show to the east coast’s New York metro Tri-State area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut).
The Voice coach asked NBCUniversal to relocate her self-titled talk show’s production to the East Coast so that she could be geographically closer to her family. Kelly told TalkShowLive that, after going through the coronavirus pandemic, she realized “being isolated and so far from your family…that’s not good for anyone.” The host continued, “My family is East Coast, they’re North Carolina based. So it was one of those things where I just had to.”
Last year, Clarkson sat down with Variety and shared that she wants to take on Broadway in the future, and has long dreamt of spending more time in New York. “I have dreams of maybe Broadway one day. And I have different dreams I’ve had since I was a kid,” she said.
Clarkson added, “I don’t know how it’s all going to pan out. I could do the show for years, if we’re lucky enough to have the legacy that these other people have. But at the same time, that doesn’t mean I can’t do Broadway in a summer. That doesn’t mean I can’t have that gypsy mentality and change it up.”
The Kelly Clarkson Show has been a hit largely due to Clarkson’s heartfelt interviews with celebrity guests as well as her “Kellyoke” segments at the start of each episode (when she covers popular songs as requested by viewers).
The soon-to-be NYC-based show has notably scored 13 Daytime Emmys, including three for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host for Clarkson (2020 to 2022) and two for Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment (2021 to 2022). For the 2023 Emmys, it is nominated for 11 Daytime Emmys, including Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host and Outstanding Talk Series.
The Kelly Clarkson Show will relocate to the East Coast for the fall to NBC Studios in New York City.
Many fans headed to Twitter to share their joy in the news that Clarkson’s show is coming to Manhattan to film future seasons. One user deemed this to be a “plot twist” as another described it to be a “very pleasant surprise.”
“I’ll have to plan on getting tickets to see her show when she’s settled at 30 Rock,” one fan tweeted as another replied, “I think that this is gonna be a great opportunity for Kelly and maybe a change of state will be good for her, I’m excited for her and wish her the best of luck.”
