Almost two full months after Kim Kardashian filed for divorce against Kanye West, the rapper has officially responded. According to legal documents obtained by E! News, the rapper is citing “irreconcilable differences” for their divorce and requesting joint physical and legal custody of their four children – North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 23 months.

Kardashian also filed for joint custody, so it seems like they are in agreement about that aspect of their split. And although their kids must be struggling with the new state of things between their parents, it definitely sounds like Kim and Kanye are putting their children first throughout these proceedings.

It seems that Kim is taking the advice from her mother, Kris Jenner, seriously. During a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, Jenner explained that putting the kids first was a lesson she learned in both of her divorces. “I think the most important thing I learned through my experience, both of my experiences, is that the kids come first,” she said.

As for other details of their divorce, E! adds that many of West’s court documents resemble Kardashian’s. “His court filing asserts that they should each pay for their own legal fees, and he agrees with Kim that neither party should pay spousal support,” the article explains.

Although it sounds like that particular part of the divorce will be relatively easy to settle, there is one part of West’s documents that could point to future tension between the former couple. E! explains that the duo will split their property (separate and shared) “according to proof at time of trial or settlement.”

In February 2021, Forbes suggested that this might be the most complicated part of the divorce. “The pair owns a number of homes—and have a number of mortgages—together, including a Calabasas mansion in Los Angeles County, Miami condo and two ranches in Wyoming,” the outlet explained at the time.

The couple came to a prenup agreement in 2014 ahead of their wedding in Florence, Italy. Hopefully, this will continue to make the divorce process a little bit easier for Kim, Kanye, and the kids.
