It’s no secret that fans have constantly called out Kim Kardashian and her sisters for promoting unrealistic beauty and body standards. So unrealistic, in fact, that they even go to extra measures to ensure their faces and bodies seem as unattainable and out-of-this-world as possible; as in addition to their rumored plastic surgeries and cosmetic procedures, they also post even more unrealistic, heavily edited pictures of themselves on social media too. But interestingly, Kim isn’t denying it; and she is actually very conscious of the influence she and her sisters have!
Speaking to Vogue, part of her candid accompanying cover interview for its March issue, the 41-year-old SKIMS founder said that she is all too aware of how her fans feel about the unrealistic beauty standards that the Kardashian/Jenner family promote. Although she did tell the fashion bible that she had “never heard” the jaw-dropping statistic the interviewer told her about, which was that 30 percent of women visiting a particular plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills plastic said their end goal was to look just like her! Wow!
The Vogue interviewer couldn’t wait to address the unrealistic, ultra-flawless images the Kardashian/Jenners post, saying, "You and your sisters have been blamed for promoting—," before Kim cut them off and said, "Everything." Well, at least she was quick to admit it and take responsibility!
"There’s definitely an influence, both positive and negative, on how a whole group of people view themselves because of social media. I can see that. I’m not blocked off to the idea that it exists," the KKW Beauty founder continued. "But I try to think, 'Okay, if I’m raising my kids, how would I react if I felt like there were things on TikTok or Instagram that I wouldn’t want them to see and be a part of?' We would have those conversations."
"I just try to live my life and be happy for people," the mom-of-four went on to say. "And I think when you just live your life like that, you block it out. It’s like a racehorse that puts on blinders so they can see clearly and straight. You’ve got to just be that racehorse, put on those blinders, and go. And if you start trying to see to the right or the left of you, you’re going to trip up."
Kim finished off the conversation by telling the mag that she felt it was "not fair" for everyone with "dark hair and tan skin" to be compared to her, as they might not even be trying to copy her signature style! She said: "I don't know if I would ever say, 'Oh my God, this person looks like me.' I think if someone has dark hair and tan skin people are going to say, 'Oh, that looks like Kim.' And that’s not fair, because there are so many people who are just themselves."
