Kim Kardashian expressed her astonishment at the overwhelming popularity of the Kardashian-Jenner family during the season 4 finale of Hulu’s The Kardashians. The SKIMS mogul and reality star, 43, confessed that she was taken aback while reminiscing about her kin’s early days in the spotlight.

This conversation ensued during a 40th birthday celebration for Kourtney Kardashian Barker‘s ex Scott Disick where her mother Kris Jenner reminisced about having known Disick for “most of [his] adult life.” In another scene, Kim then acknowledged the family’s unexpected fame, which has since made them public figures.

While honoring his big day during the episode, "momager" Kris, 68, could be seen telling Scott: "You were literally here episode one, season 1." She referenced the family's first and iconic reality series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

The father of three jokingly replied: "I was like, 'This show's going nowhere!'" Later on during the evening's festivities, Kim raised a glass to Scott, reflecting on their nearly two-decade-long friendship. In her speech, she praised Scott for consistently being there for her, despite the challenges they've faced. Scott shares three children (Mason, 14, Penelope, 11, and Reign, 8) with her older sister Kourtney, 44. Kim noted that Scott "supported me through thick and thin" and was with her "through every phase."

"[Remember] when you were on the cover of Dog Fancy?" Scott joked, before the family made it clear that it was actually K9 Magazine. Kim replied: "Anything for a cover!" stressing that she didn't even like dogs.

As Scott acknowledged Kim's progress since then, citing her achievements as a lawyer and Vogue cover star, she quietly whispered to her siblings: "Guys, we scammed the system. We did it! Whatever it is, we figured it out and did it! We put in some hard work."

In a separate confessional interview for the episode, Kim told producers: "Scott’s my motivator. He’ll always say, 'God, can you believe you did it?' And I’m like, 'I can't, this is crazy.' ... We aren’t supposed to be here, like how did we get in this cool party? We weren’t the cool kids, how did we do it?"

Kim and her mother and siblings were thrust into the spotlight with the debut of Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E! in October 2007. The show's 20th and final season aired during June of 2021, after a successful run of nearly 14 years.

In addition to the main show, the family also appeared in various spinoffs, as People reports, such as Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami/Kourtney & Kim Take Miami, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Khloé & Lamar, Kourtney & Khloé Take the Hamptons, I Am Cait, Dash Dolls, Rob & Chyna, and Life of Kylie. These spinoffs gave audiences a deeper look into the family's dynamic and further cemented their status as pop culture icons.
