The late Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly surrounded by many of her loved ones before she passed away on September 8th, 2022. And that did *not* include Meghan Markle!

According to reports, King Charles asked the former Suits actress “to stay away” from his late mother while she was on her deathbed in Balmoral Castle in Scotland. He reportedly told his youngest son Prince Harry why he wanted his wife to keep her distance – and that reason has now been revealed in a new biography about the King. Keep reading for all the details…

Meghan Markle And Kate Middleton Were Not Beside The Late Queen Elizabeth II On Her Deathbed

Robert Hardman reflected on the late Queen's death in his new book, Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story, and explained how both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were not at the Queen's side as she passed away.

Although the late Queen and Prince William's wife had a very special bond, the Princess of Wales reportedly chose not to travel to Scotland to be with the then monarch in her final moments. This is because she had another very important mom job that she had to take care of at the exact same time!

Why Wasn't Kate Middleton In Scotland?

The mom-of-three reportedly wanted to support her three children as they started at their new school, which is why she decided against traveling to Scotland. As the Princess of Wales was not going to be at Balmoral as she was supporting Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on their first day at Lambrook School, King Charles took advantage of this and used it as an excuse to keep the Duchess of Sussex away too.

Perhaps, he felt, she wouldn't feel as bad about not being there if the Princess of Wales was also missing. Especially if both Prince Harry and Meghan thought it was because she also wasn't invited, not because she made the decision herself.

And it seems like King Charles knew his son very well, as Prince Harry touched on this in his bombshell memoir, Spare, confirming that he wasn't as angry after he found out that his sister-in-law would also be missing. Would the With Love, Meghan star have been asked to stay away if the Princess of Wales was going to be there? We guess we'll never know!

Prince Harry Talks About Meghan Markle Not Being In Scotland As The Queen Passed Away In His Memoir

King Charles reportedly told his son that the Princess of Wales was also asked not to come to Scotland (a little white lie as it seems like the decision came from the Princess of Wales herself) which Prince Harry seemed to feel better about, as it meant that his wife was not being disrespected in the way he initially thought.

The Invictus Games founder wrote in his book: "Meg and I looked at flight options. The press started phoning; we couldn't delay a decision any longer. We told our team to confirm: We'd be missing the WellChild Awards and hurrying up to Scotland. Then came another call from Pa."

"He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn't want… her," the father-of-two continued. "He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn't having it. 'Don't ever speak about my wife that way.'"

"He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn't want a lot of people around. No other wives were coming, Kate wasn't coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn't," he went on, adding: "Then that's all you needed to say." How will Prince Harry feel now that he knows the truth, we wonder?
