Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been speaking their truth for some months now in their Netflix Harry & Meghan docuseries and Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, with the Palace keeping a very dignified silence, as is true to their “never complain, never explain” mantra. However, that could soon all be about to change, as King Charles III, 74, is reportedly “in talks” to give “his side of the story” in what will likely be a bombshell interview with the BBC ahead of his coronation in May this year – and royal fans can’t quite contain their excitement!
King Charles To Give 'Landmark Interview' Ahead Of His Coronation
According to The Mirror, the new King is preparing to do a "landmark" interview with the BBC – his first major interview since taking the throne – which will allow him to essentially break his silence and give his side of the story in a way which is more in keeping with the way the royal family does things, as opposed to directly responding to the many allegations against them.
The Palace hasn’t officially responded to any of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's allegations in their docuseries which landed on Netflix in December last year or Prince Harry's memoir which was released in January this year, so this could be the royal family's way of getting their own truth out there in a less direct way!
What Are Some Of Prince Harry's Biggest Allegations Against The Royal Family?
Some of the allegations against the royal family include Prince Harry, 38, claiming his older brother Prince William, 40, physically attacked him at his home in 2019 over a fight about Meghan, 41, while the real story of Kate Middleton, 41, and Meghan feuding over bridesmaid dresses ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan's royal wedding in 2018 is still an unconfirmed mystery.
Prince Harry also made several claims about his and his brother's frosty relationship with Queen Consort Camilla, 75, which have not been addressed by any other members of the royal family.
What Could King Charles Talk About In The Interview?
"Plans are already up and running for coronation coverage at the BBC, including the profile on the monarch. It is not the done thing to avoid subjects in interviews, so it makes matters tricky," a royal insider told The Mirror about the interview, before going on to suggest that this is a very "delicate" matter and has to be handled very carefully, because any comments about Prince Harry and Meghan will grab all the headlines and potentially take attention away from the coronation.
"Even one small comment on Harry and Meghan would make worldwide news," they added. "It could also prompt a response from Harry, which would be unpredictable, like so much. Everything is very delicate." The source went on to add: "There remains an option for the family to simply produce a coronation speech or content they film and supply. It allows control over what is said and would not address the Sussexes."
When Will King Charles' Interview Air?
There's currently no word on when the interview will be filmed or will air, but we expect it to air some time on the BBC before King Charles' coronation, which is currently set to take place on Saturday, May 6th at Westminster Abbey in London. Interestingly, ITV reportedly also wanted to interview King Charles ahead of the coronation, but insiders revealed that they were told that their chances were very "slim" after Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Tom Bradby before the release of Spare. Ouch!
The BBC reportedly wants King Charles to discuss his life and what he plans to achieve during his role as monarch, with rumors that veteran broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby, 78, who is a longtime friend of the King, has been asked to conduct the interview. Royal enthusiasts (and those who have watched Season 5 of The Crown) may remember that Dimbleby interviewed the then Prince Charles back in June, 1994, where he infamously discussed the failure of his and Princess Diana's marriage, saying he was faithful "until [the marriage] became irretrievably broken down, us both having tried."
