Prince Harry‘s fleeting visit to the U.K. last week did involve attending an event to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Invictus Games at St. Paul’s Cathedral. But it did not involve a visit with King Charles!
The world wondered for many months whether the Duke of Sussex, 39, would meet with his father during his brief trip to the U.K. for the special Invictus Games celebration. However, a spokesperson for Prince Harry revealed last week that the King, 75, didn’t have time to squeeze in a visit, as his schedule was too “full.” But that might not be the only reason the meeting didn’t happen…
King Charles Didn't See Prince Harry During His Brief UK Trip
According to The Mirror, Prince Harry's spokesperson issued a brief statement ahead of the Invictus Games event on May 8th and said: "It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty's full program. The Duke of course is understanding of his father's diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon."
However, if we are to believe newer reports, that wasn't the only reason for the father and son failing to meet. According to the Daily Mail, a close friend of the King confessed that the monarch didn't want to see his son because of the drama such a meeting would bring. And given that he is currently seeking treatment for cancer, it's unnecessary stress and drama that he doesn't need!
"He doesn't need the drama in his life," a close friend reportedly said, according to the pub, adding: "Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have brought him, and the rest of the family, nothing but worries over the past few years."
Fan Comments
Many royal fans seemed to side with King Charles for making the decision to avoid his son. Commenting on a Daily Mail article, one fan wrote: "It may be that Charles has realized that Harry and Meghan are never going to change their destructive behavior. It must be heartbreaking for Charles but it's for his sake, his family's sake and the good of the nation that he has to cut Harry out. It's a wise but terribly sad decision."
"It makes perfect sense. Sometimes family members can be toxic, it is best to not be around them, especially when you are recovering from cancer," wrote another, as a third said: "No one needs drama in their lives, especially when dealing with a serious illness, or recovering from major surgery. Doesn't matter who it is."
"Both he and Catherine are battling cancer. That is enough stress. Nobody, including Charles, wants to put themselves in a potentially contentious situation that will be reported back to the media, much less when dealing with a disease," wrote another fan. Someone else commented: "His Majesty probably doesn't have the time or energy to put up with Hapless Harry and his retinue of photographers and sound recorders, and doesn't need Harry selling the content of his private conversations to Oprah and The View."
