The first trailer for the upcoming film Spencer was just released on Wednesday, and fans are shocked by Kristen Stewart’s dramatic transformation into the late Princess Diana for the role. The movie, which is set to hit theaters this November, is titled after the Princess’s maiden name and will follow one week in the life of the mother of Prince Harry and Prince William as she makes her exit from the royal family. The poster for the film was also revealed on Wednesday, showing Stewart in a sweeping white ball gown, huddled on the floor and wearing Diana’s iconic blonde shag cut.

In the teaser trailer, Stewart as Princess Diana can be seen looking stunning and troubled as the film follows Diana’s exit from royal life, the tumultuous relationship she shared with Prince Charles, and the impact that the pressure of royal duties had on the late Princess. Throughout the short minute long video, Stewart cycles through a number of classic Princess Diana outfits, set to a stunning choir score.
Rather than spanning the entirety of Princess Diana’s life in the royal family, the film will follow the Princess throughout the week leading up to her decision to end her marriage to Prince Charles, a notion which was entirely unheard of in royal history and sent ripples throughout the world. Depicting her relationship with her young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, as well, the film will delve into the marriage between Charles and Diana and the factors that led to the ultimate demise of the relationship.

Stewart has been putting in hard work to nail the role of Princess Diana, revealing to InStyle last year that she’s gotten professional dialect coaching to perfect the accent, despite being American herself. “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice and it’s so, so distinct and particular,” she revealed to InStyle. “I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach.”
You may think you’ve gotten your fill of Princess Diana from the most recent season of The Crown, but Spencer promises to be a more intimate look at the stunning, strong, and intelligent woman who decided to leave the royal family–a life coveted by many, in favor of her happiness. Stewart may be an initially surprising choice to play the titular role, but after seeing the teaser trailer, it’s clear she’s nailed the look.
