Kristin Chenoweth is shutting down those viral Ariana Grande lip syncing rumors regarding the upcoming Wicked film. As fans know, Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch in the original Broadway production of Wicked. Grande is set to play the same beloved part in the 2024 live-action film based on the musical.

Last month, rumors on social media emerged, claiming that Grande was using recordings of Chenoweth’s vocals and lip syncing along with them, rather than singing herself. Chenoweth, however, told Entertainment Tonight in a recent interview that she and Grande simply just sound alike as soprano singers.

No Lip Syncing for Ariana Grande in Wicked Film, Says Kristin Chenoweth

The Tony Award-winning actress graced the 5th annual Vanderpump Dog Foundation Gala in Beverly Hills, CA, this month. She then addressed the speculation that Grande was using her vocals to lip sync, quickly setting the record straight.

Upon hearing about the rumors for the first time, Chenoweth said, “I cracked up because I have heard it and I knew it was her, and I was like, ‘Why did they think that’s me?'”

The Bewitched alum added, “We are very similar and we have been her whole life, and then when we talk on the phone we sound like dolphins.” The RV star continued, “I know that she has been diligently working on that vocal and she can sing anything, and I’m so proud of her.”
