Fans Just Called Out Kylie Jenner For Always Photoshopping These Lines On Her Face

All of the Kardashian/Jenner clan have come under fire for their overuse of Photoshop over the years, with Kylie Jenner being the latest member of the family to cause a stir, as she has been called out by fans for constantly Photoshopping out her nasolabial folds – i.e., smile lines – in her pictures!

What Are Nasolabial Folds?

Nasolabial folds, also referred to as nasolabial lines, smile lines, or laugh lines are simply the creases in the skin extending from both sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth. Although children have subtle hints of these, they become more prominent and permanent with age (they often start to get deeper in our mid to late twenties!) although other factors such as smoking and sun damage are also believed to cause them to deepen. The sun’s ultraviolet rays and smoking, for example, break down the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin that keep it smooth and supported, which therefore leads to deeper creases.

Kylie Jenner Comes Under Fire For Photoshopping Her Nasolabial Folds

Although smile lines are perfectly natural, the 25-year-old Kylie Cosmetics founder has been known to Photoshop them so they disappear completely in pictures, which she has now been called out for on a March 16th Instagram post by @beauty.false showing some Insta vs reality pictures. The post is captioned: “This post is about nasolabial folds. Often they become the object of editing, but they are a normal part of our face.” We know the mom-of-two Photoshops a *lot* of her features to always present a smooth and almost unrealistic image, but this post was specifically about the smile lines!

“@kyliejenner is notorious for editing these out. It’s what makes her look so different on video/unedited photos!” exclaimed one fan. “The amount of editing of the folds in these pics is absurd,” commented another. “Not even Kylie can look like Kylie. These women have made a mold not even they can fill,” noted another. “It’s crazy how just editing [these lines] out makes you look like an actual doll. This is the standard of beauty that is being pushed on our girls and boys,” said another.

Other fans commented about their own insecurities, with one saying, "The constant editing of nasolabial folds has given me dysmorphia over mine." They added, "There’s such a toxic ideal of what women are supposed to look like. Take for instance, when society (esp Tiktok) sees unedited pictures of Kylie or Kim they tear them to shreds and say how old and haggard they look. So that doesn’t help either."

Someone else said: "It’s so strange. Mine have been very prominent my whole life. I never knew they were such an issue to people and I’ve never minded mine but I remember the first time on tumblr how people edit them out and honestly most of the time it makes them look completely different. Why? It’s not humanly possible to have a 100% smooth face."

Did Kylie's Previous Filler Actually Cause The Smile Lines?

There are a few procedures that *could* potentially help with smile lines, including hyaluronic acid dermal fillers which can be injected around the nasolabial folds to replenish volume and help reduce those first signs of aging. Therefore, this caused a few people in the comments section to ask why the Kylie Skin founder doesn’t have something done to help soften the smile lines if they bother her so much, which a TikTok user called @bbysarita addressed following Kylie's appearance at the Schiaparelli Spring/Summer 2023 Couture show during Paris Fashion Week. However, other people in the comments section thought that her original filler could be to blame for the smile lines being so prominent, and begged her to "never ever fill those lines."

"Those lines are so harsh *because* of filler," thought one fan, adding, "Happens with migrated cheek and lip filler." Another fan agreed, saying, "Never ever fill those lines. Also those lines can be from too much filler in the cheek from being too heavy." "I think she has the folds because she has filler," suspected yet another fan, while someone else added, "I think she's scared to fill anymore honestly." Another fan had the same opinion, writing: "She's probably afraid to even touch her face with more filler at this point."
