Kylie Jenner’s newest business venture, a clothing line titled Khy, earned $1M in revenue in just one hour on Nov. 1st, the day it launched. The clothing line, created in collaboration with Berlin-based label Namilia, consists of affordable faux leather items, and fans and celebs alike are raving about it, with Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner teasing some of the pieces ahead of its launch. However, some designers are claiming she copied their designs, namely Betsy Johnson, who has a clothing brand called “Products.”

Kylie Jenner is the founder and owner of cosmetic company Kylie Cosmetics, which she created in 2014 and is still selling fan-favorite Lip Kits to this day. Her newest venture, Khy, according to the model, is “really inspired by my personal wardrobe, and the different moods that I’m in.” Yet artists like Betsy Johnson think the brand is inspired by their own designs, and are letting the public know that.

According to a recent press release, the clothing drop consists of 12 items, including “faux leather pants, coats, tops, and base layers.” The businesswoman has clearly made inclusivity and affordability priorities, offering sizes XXS to 4X and pricing every item at under $200.

Kylie Jenner teased some looks from the fashion line as early as Oct. 25th, and at her launch party on Oct. 26th, her sister, Kendall Jenner, and BFF, Hailey Bieber, sported looks from the line. Kendall wore a strapless, knee length, faux leather dress while Hailey showed off her long legs in a black faux leather mini dress—the perfect LBD.

On the day of her launch, Nov. 1st, Kylie attended the WSJ Magazine Awards, where she was honored as Brand Innovator of the Year. The magazine also put Kylie on their front cover, in which she is wearing some pieces from Khy. Within the first hour of the products going live, Kylie raked in $1M in sales—good for her!

Designers claim Kylie stole their ideas

While Kylie relishes in the success of her clothing line, other designers are claiming she ripped off their ideas. Betsy Johnson, founder of the clothing line Products, posted a series of Instagram stories on Wednesday calling out Kylie and her team. "We emailed Kylie and all her team @products.ltd concept and language and a line sheet 6 MONTHS AGO. INTERESTING CONCEPT KYLIE:...INTERESTING," the designer wrote. "Thanks for the co-sign… F*** your support." Kylie has yet to comment on Johnson’s allegations, but we’re hoping that creative minds might just think alike?

Fan reactions

Some fans felt for designer Betsy Johnson, while others think it was her fault for sending Jenner her designs in the first place. "Why in the world would you send the Kardashian your designs? They are known for ripping off other designers," one user posted on Reddit.

“That family doesn't have an original thought in their empty heads," another user wrote.

But others think there aren’t enough similarities in the piece to be considered a copy of Betsy’s designs. "I mean, does this designer really think she created faux leather? No one else is allowed to ever use faux leather and trenches? They don't even look the same!" one fan posted.

"These concepts look totally different. I actually think Khy looks better," another fan added.

And many other fans agreed, taking to the Khy Instagram page to share their thoughts. 'I secured the coat sis. Can't wait!" one fan commented. "Ordered the whole drop!" another added.

"I got the trench coat and I am so excited!" another user commented. "I can't wait to style it!"

Jenner is already teasing a second drop, this time including puffers and utility layers with Entire Studios. The second drop is set to launch on Nov. 15… we’re already counting down the days!
