Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn… can you think of a more perfect casting? Ever since the “Born This Way” hitmaker, 36, announced the Joker sequel release date earlier this month on social media (and her role in the upcoming film), fans have been going wild.
While we have to wait quite some time until we actually see Gaga on-screen with Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix (the flick comes out in 2024), we rounded up everything we know so far about Joker: Folie à Deux, directed by Todd Phillips.
On August 4th, the House of Gucci star uploaded a short animated video to her Instagram and Twitter accounts, one that sees two black silhouettes dancing in front of a red background. Gaga also revealed the sequel’s title and official release date, release date of October 4th, 2024.

According to a new report from Variety, Phoenix and director Phillips are each allegedly making $20 million for the DC Comics-inspired film. Gaga is reportedly making $10 million for her upcoming role, according to the publication.
After Phoenix garnered a plethora of critical acclaim for his performance in 2019’s Joker, the magazine also notes that his salary has vastly increased for the sequel. In the award-winning first movie, Phoenix made $4.5 million. The film was a memorable hit, earning over $1 billion at the global box office and scoring 11 Oscar nominations.

Upon hearing the news that Gaga will bring her acting talents as a beloved character, fans expressed their joy on Twitter. “I can’t believe Lady Gaga will be in the Joker world!!” wrote one excited fan as another added, “congrats are in order for Lady Gaga! So excited to see you in the sequel!”
Others conveyed their thoughts with heart-eyes, red hearts and fire emojis while wishing the Grammy winner success in her new role. (While we loved Margot Robbie’s iteration, we can’t wait to see Gaga take on Quinn!)
