Lady Gaga Allegedly 'Embarrassed And Shocked' Over Her Scenes Being Cut From Joker: Folie à Deux
In the film, Gaga takes on the role of the psychiatrist-turned-criminal and beloved DC Comics figure, Harley Quinn. She stars opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who embodies Arthur Fleck, also known as the Joker— the mentally ill, nihilistic villain with a clownish facade.
The jukebox musical psychological thriller faced harsh criticism from reviewers and flopped at the box office, earning just $192 million against its $190–200 million budget, as reported by Variety.
As the insider also dished to Life & Style, Gaga thought that the way her songs in the film were shown were "all these awkward shifts from violence and dread to upbeat, jazzy songs."
The source went on: "It made her look foolish and inept." According to the insider, the A Star Is Born alumna and House of Gucci star plans to step away from Hollywood to concentrate on her pop music career.
"It was a wake-up call that she needed," they shared. "A pretty clear message that she’s a singer and songwriter first — and an actor, second."
They continued, regarding the "Bad Romance" hitmaker: "Yes, she made numerous critically acclaimed movies before this flop, but they don’t make up for this embarrassment. She came off looking like an amateur."
On October 25th, Gaga unveiled her latest single, "Disease." Accompanied by a lyric video, this dramatic lead track from her upcoming album signifies, as another insider revealed to Page Six, a "return to form" for the superstar.
"It’s sonically reminiscent of her [2011] Born This Way album. Think dark dance-pop," they noted. Luckily for Gaga's Little Monsters, it's available to stream now!
