Lady Gaga, 36, made an unexpected last-minute appearance at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday, March 12. The singer-songwriter claimed that she wouldn’t be able to attend the award show because of conflicts with filming her upcoming crime-musical, Joker: Folie à Deux. Gaga was spotted in character as Harley Quinn earlier in the day. She was booked and busy Sunday! Even though she was in a rush, Gaga was put together for the Oscars red carpet. She wowed in a sheer black dress fresh off the Versace runway that showed off her edgy back and lower back tattoos.

Lady Gaga Wears A Sheer Versace Dress That Gigi Hadid Wore On The Runway
When we say fresh off the runway, we mean *fresh* off the runway. The dress, which features a sheer long-sleeve bodice and a drop-waist skirt, was debuted just days ago by Gigi Hadid, 27, when she opened the Versace FW23 runway show in Los Angeles on March 9. The dress also had one surprising detail.

The skirt dipped low in the back, exposing her backside with a strategically placed zipper. Because of the sheer design (check out the sheer Gucci dress Gaga wore for her latest Dom Pérignon ads!), you could see all of the Emmy-winning actress’ intricate tattoos. And, her edgy glam complimented her equally gothic dress.

Gaga opted for putting her ice-blonde hair into a slicked-back updo. Her custom diamond collar necklace features a central Medusa from Versace. And, for makeup, she went with a glossy red lip, pink blush, and a smoky eye with heavy eyeliner and mascara to accentuate her bright eyes.

Obviously, her Little Monsters were beside themselves when she posted pics of her look to Instagram. “Out of this world!” one fan commented on the post, while another wrote, “Lady Gaga did not disappoint,” with a heart emoji. A third commenter chimed in with, “Absolution stunning,” with a fire emoji, and another commented, “Love the outfit and your performance so much.” Donatella Versace, designer and founder of Versace, even commented, “Gaga, you are such a beauty and an incredible talent and I love you, Donatella Versace.”

Gaga wasn’t initially expected to attend the Oscars. A show producer, Glenn Weiss, said on Wednesday, March 8 that the pop star had a scheduling conflict with her Joker sequel. However, on Sunday, Gaga confirmed that she would indeed be there and would perform “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick—which is nominated for Original Song—at the ceremony. For the emotional performance, Gaga ditched the chic dress and goth glam makeup and changed into a simple black tee, black jeans, and converse.
Although Gaga did not win Best Original Song, this was her fourth Oscar nomination and third for Original Song. Last year, the “Poker Face” singer won the trophy for the song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, for which she was also nominated for Best Actress.
