Joaquin Phoenix Praises Lady Gaga For Weight Loss
Sitting for a question-and-answer panel at the film festival, Phoenix was answering questions fielded to him about his own weight loss for the film when he brought Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta. "Stefani also lost a lot of weight," the 49-year-old actor said. "I remember when I first met you in rehearsals and then you went away for like a month and then you came back, you lost a lot of weight."
"It was really impressive," he added. "It seemed very difficult." Ever the humble star, the singer thanked her co-star and said, "I think we transformed into our characters over a period of time and we continued to hone in every kind of detail." While she didn't delve into how she lost the weight this time, back when she was in the thick of it, her trainer, Harley Pasternak, and personal chef, Bo O'Connor, shed some light on the subject.
How Lady Gaga Stays Fit
According to O'Connor, Gaga is an "adventurous eater," but also prefers to stay away from processed foods. Her breakfast options range from eggs or egg whites with vegetables to Greek yogurt with "healthy granola," O'Connor explained. "If she was in the mood for French toast or something sweeter, we would make a healthier version of that for her. Lunch is usually a salad, while dinner can be a gluten-free or quinoa pasta with a side of vegetables and grilled shrimp.
But it's not just what happens in the kitchen—it's also what happens in the gym. And in the gym, the "Bad Romance" singer prefers yoga and pilates. She also trains with celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, which usually looks like 35-minute strength training sessions five days a week.
