I Got A Lash Lift And It Looks Like I’m Wearing Fake Eyelashes—Even Without Mascara!

I’ve been blessed with pretty long lashes, but getting them to look bigger and fuller has never been an easy feat. They’re also not too keen on being curled, even when I apply multiple coats of mascara and go in with an eyelash curler. This struggle is what lead me to GLO Spa NY, who offers lash lift treatments to help curl and lift the eyelashes for an elevated lash look.

A lash lift, which goes for $175 at GLO Spa NY, is basically a perm for your lashes and offers a semi-permanent lift and curl to the eyelashes. This treatment has become the preferred method of lash lengthening for those with short and/or straight lashes who want fuller-looking lashes without the damaging effects of lash extensions. The hour-long procedure mimics the results of an eyelash curler, leaving your natural lashes curled for anywhere from six-to-eight weeks.

I also got my lashes tinted, which adds a dark tint to the lashes for extra depth and darkness using a concoction that’s similar to hair dye. It makes it look like you’re wearing a light layer of mascara and is ideal for those who don’t like to put on makeup every day but still want bold, defined lashes.

What To Know Before You Get A Lash Lift

Thinking about getting a lash lift? We asked our Instagram followers for their burning lash lift questions and sat down with Saime Demirovic, who is the co-founder of GLO Spa NY to get the scoop on how lash lifts work:

What Happens During A Lash Lift Treatment?

When getting a lash lift, a silicone mold is applied to the eyelid to create the shape of your lash, which also keeps your eyes safe from any chemicals during the treatment. Lashes are then glued to the mold and then separated one by one. Once this is done, we apply the perm solution, which we let set for about 15 minutes. Once the solution is removed, we then use a conditioning solution to keep your lashes healthy.

What Is Used To Lift And Tint The Lashes?

The solutions used for a lift are very similar to hair perming solutions, but just a bit more gentle; the same goes for the tint. So if you are allergic to hair dye then beware--do not get a tint if you have allergies to hair dye.

How Do Lash Lifts Compare To Eyelash Extensions?

The benefit of getting a lash lift is that they are your own natural lashes; you don't have to worry about your extensions falling off or ruining your natural lashes.

Can You Wear Mascara With A Lash Lift?

It is completely up to you. Some people would still prefer a more dramatic look, but I personally haven't used mascara with a lash lift because they look great on their own.

Does Removing Your Eye Makeup Remove The Lash Lift?

After getting a lash lift, you cannot get your eyes wet for at least 24 hours to allow the perm to really shape the lash. Avoid makeup remover for 48 hours to be safe, but it should not cause damage to the lashes.

Before getting a lash lift, it's important that you come in without any makeup and do not use remover before the lift; makeup remover has oils that can interfere with the lifting process.

Will My Lashes Feel Weaker Or Fall Out After Getting A Lash Lift?

Lashes naturally fall out and we continually lose and regrow new ones. If any lashes seem to fall, it’s probably just because of your own lashes' natural process of shedding. Lashes should not seem weaker after a treatment, but if something feels wrong, taking a lash enhancing serum will help give them the vitamins and nutrients they need.

How Do You Make The Most Of Your Lash Lift?

Take care of your lash lift and they might last a few weeks longer than normal. Brush them up daily with a lash brush to keep the hair separated and healthy. Also, using a lash serum will help to keep your lashes strong and could possibly add another 2-3 weeks to your lift.
