Lauren Sánchez Slammed For Carrying Balenciaga’s ‘Ridiculous’ Controversial Coffee Cup Handbag
The 55-year-old broadcaster is due to marry the 61-year-old billionaire Amazon founder in June – but she doesn’t appear to be saving the pennies for the big bash. At least, if the outfit she was recently papped in is anything to go by.
The Black Ops Aviation founder was papped wearing a figure-hugging dark denim midi dress, teamed with a waist-cinching belt and sky-scraping brown heels. So far, so good. However, it was her purse which seemed to cause controversy, as she was carrying the infamous Balenciaga ‘9AM Coffee Cup’ clutch bag.
The internet had a lot of thoughts when the once controversial brand first unveiled the $5,750 bag, which is highly impractical due to its shape and size, not to mention extremely pricy! “There are many other ways to throw away $6,000,” slammed one Reddit user when the bag was first unveiled, as a second wrote: “This is beyond stupid. Doesn’t even come with a strap—literally a cup/bag?!”

"Sucker. Balenciaga is laughing all the way to the bank," wrote one person on a Page Six Instagram post featuring pictures of Sánchez holding the bag. "Such a waste while people in this country are struggling," criticized a second. A third IG user called the bag "ridiculous," while a fourth said it was "absurd," as a fifth commented: "Throwing money away just because she can."
"Seriously, how out of touch with reality can you get? Pretty disgusting but not surprising," wrote a sixth unimpressed Instagram user, as a seventh said: "What a total waste of money. The rich are easily fooled." "How many mouths that could have fed? Stop flaunting your wealth! Do some good with it!" exclaimed another, while someone else simply called her "shameful."
The criticism continued in the comment section of the Daily Mail's article. "Stupidest thing ever made," slammed one reader. "Stupid 'purse' – cute dress," wrote a second, as a third called it a "ridiculous purchase." A fourth asked: "Is this a gift from Bezos? Would she spend her own money on a stupid gift like this?"
"Clearly that "tote" is for people who have so much money, they just need ridiculous things to spend it on as they run out of luxury things to buy," thought another reader, as someone else quipped: "Knowing me I'd set that stupid cup down and forget where I left it."
