French Bob
A bob is a timeless classic cut, but a french bob is even more chic and timely these days for women who are looking for a style with a little more intrigue. “Sitting just shorter than a regular bob but with all the more layering, the French Bob has seen a massive resurgence over the past 12 months with people post-lockdown wanting a more dramatic cut, but low maintenance in the styling department,” explains Gabriella Agrusa, Advanced Director and Colour Director at Blushes Hair & Beauty.
“The French Bob has no discernible baseline, the shape is fluid rather than rigid and provides a softness and elegance to the cut that’s extremely flattering to a more mature face and neck. Styling-wise this can easily be managed with a couple of great products, a diffuser, or simply scrunching and air drying the hair.” The layers of this cut will provide some movement and shape for your hair, making you look effortlessly cool and low maintenance.
Pixie
The pixie cut is a classic, but in adding layers to the look it becomes even edgier and more youthful, drawing attention to your eyes and brightening your features. “The Pixie cut is effortlessly feminine, with an edgy twist. As we get older our hair tends to get a little thinner, so taking it that bit shorter helps maximise the appearance of thickness. The layers are cut much shorter on the top and crown section of the head for added height, allowing for lots of movement,” says Agrusa. If you’ve grown tired of your longer locks and are ready for a change, a layered pixie is perfect for tapping into your youthful side while adding volume and texture to your strands.
Textured 70’s Fringe
If you want to keep your locks a little longer and draw attention away from wrinkles, this is the style for you. “The 70’s fringe tends to be worn heavier than your average fringe, parted in the center with a few shorter strands and falling around the mid cheek bones that sweep away from the face. We like to layer the effect of this fringe to bring the focus to the eyes and the cheekbones and away from any fine lines that you may have,” suggests Agrusa.
She adds that this style is ideal for people with thicker hair as it removes some of the density and offers an effortless appeal while hiding forehead wrinkles easily. If you want to do away with longer hair but keep the fringe, Agursa notes that this look too will highlight your youth, making your style playful and cool.
