Over the span of his superstar acting career, the Titanic icon has been speaking out on environmental issues, attending events, supporting charities, and making speeches about global warming, climate change, and the importance of caring for the environment in our daily choices.
Leonardo has received several awards and accolades for his environmental advocacy work, and he was even named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2014. Now, he's raising awareness for an upcoming historical climate summit happening in Brazil over the next week.
The COP30 is the 30th United Nations Climate Change conference happening in Belém, Brazil, and will consist of meetings and talks on the current state of the planet and what nations can do to take better care of it and slow down the dangerous effects of climate change. In a new Instagram video in partnership with the organization Rewild, Leonardo recorded a rare new video where he spoke about the importance of the summit and announced the non-profit would be donating $500M to help Indigenous communities protect their ancestral lands.
"I urge leaders to unite and meet the moment," he wrote in the caption of his video on Instagram. "Our future depends on it."

Despite all of the praise and accolades he's received, some people have begun discrediting the 50-year-old's work for environmental causes due to some of his lifestyle choices.
Over the last few years, he's been photographed making some controversial transportation choices, being seen getting on and off private jets, and partying on yachts in popular vacation destinations. This summer, he generated a lot of extra buzz, as he was photographed spending time with his 27-year-old girlfriend, model Vittoria Ceretti, on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' yacht, going on double dates with him and Lauren Sanchez.
Being that the billionaire entrepreneur is known for his lack of environmental charity, especially since he halted funds for a climate group earlier this year, internet users began slamming Leonardo for not only spending time with Jeff, but also for partying with him on high-carbon emission transportation methods like yachts. They expressed their disappointment after seeing his new video, leaving some harsh comments on Instagram.
