As Miley Cyrus‘ hit self-love anthem “Flowers” continues to climb the charts and break streaming records, some fans are taking a closer look at Easter eggs and potential clues as to its meaning and themes in the music video. While the Grammy winner, 30, didn’t specifically say the song is about her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, 33, the track was released on his birthday (January 13th) and the lyrics chronicle a tumultuous breakup.

Recently, some fans on Twitter dug up a 2015 video of Jennifer Lawrence, 32, confessing to kissing her Hunger Games co-star Hemsworth off-camera (while rumors of Hemsworth’s infidelity during his relationship with Cyrus trend online).

In addition, Cyrus rocks a gold Saint Laurent dress at the beginning of the “Flowers” video, which some fans noted is strikingly similar to the gold Prabal Gurung gown that Lawrence wore beside Hemsworth at the 2012 Los Angeles premiere of the first Hunger Games film…

Unpacking The Jennifer Lawrence & Liam Hemsworth Affair Rumors

While some think that the theory that Cyrus was alluding to Lawrence’s dress with her gold Saint Laurent number is a stretch, others are even more convinced. In 2015, Lawrence appeared on Watch What Happens Live and host Andy Cohen asked the Oscar winner about rumors that she shared “PDA” with Hemsworth.

Cohen asked, regarding their time shooting three Hunger Games films from 2012 to 2015,  “Have you two kissed when the cameras weren’t rolling?” to which Lawrence replied with a laugh, “Liam and I grew up together. Liam’s real hot. What would you have done?” Cohen then replied, “yes,” which made Lawrence laugh again, and she ultimately confessed, “yeah” with a chuckle.

Given Cyrus and Hemsworth’s notoriously on-again, off-again relationship, other fans on Twitter think that Lawrence and Hemsworth “most likely” locked lips in one of the periods when he wasn’t with Cyrus, as one fan wrote, while others are still “convinced by the matching gold dresses theory” and think Cyrus threw shade at Lawrence with her wardrobe choice.

Cyrus & Hemsworth’s Relationship Timeline & Other Cheating Rumors

Cyrus and Hemsworth famously met in June 2009 on the set of The Last Song and began dating soon after. They reportedly split (according to E!) for the first time in August 2010, got back together in September of that year, broke up again in November, and reunited once more in April of 2011.

In March of 2012, engagement rumors began swirling. Hemsworth officially confirmed to have proposed in June of that year, and in September of 2013, they called off their engagement. The rollercoaster ride continued when the couple confirmed they got back together and reignited their engagement (again!) in October of 2016, and they finally tied the knot in December 2018. Sadly, the two broke up in August of 2019 and Hemsworth filed for divorce.

After the release of the “Flowers” music video last month, baseless rumors emerged on Twitter and elsewhere claiming that Cyrus donned one of Hemsworth’s suits in the video, and that it was shot in the same house where Hemsworth reportedly cheated on Cyrus with “multiple women.”

However, as many may recall, Cyrus tweeted in 2019, “I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating,” and the while the lyrics of “Flowers” were written from the point of view of someone choosing themselves over a failing relationship, they don’t specifically mention infidelity. One significant line, however, that fans think links Hemsworth to the song is, “We were right ’til we weren’t / Built a home and watched it burn.” (the couple’s house in Malibu tragically burned down during the Woolsey fire in 2018).

“I can buy myself flowers/ Write my name in the sand,” Cyrus memorably sings on the powerful track. Later in the song, she croons, “I can love me better than you can,” promoting a message of knowing one’s worth. “Flowers” is the lead single from her upcoming eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, out March 10th (mark your calendars!)
