1. Never Skip On Primer
No matter what age you are, a primer is always a good idea. But especially as you get older, a good primer is super important, just for very different reasons then when you were in your 20s. As you mature, fine lines start to appear around the sensitive skin areas on your face, like your eyes. The skin on your eyelids is extremely thin and prone to damage from tugging and pulling at it with makeup application in your youth. To help smooth fine lines and keep your eyeshadow from settling into the creases of your eyelids, always use an eyeshadow primer.
2. Opt For Jewel Or Sage-Tone Eyeshadow Colors
While brown eyeshadow may have been your go-to color when you were younger, it's not very forgiving on older women. Brown hues have yellow and red undertones in it that can make your eyes look harsh and tired. To look younger, use brighter colors that will help make you look more awake. Sage or jewel-tone eyeshadow shades are great for a more youthful look.
3. Smudge Your Eyeliner
Unless you're a cat eye makeup pro, avoid harsh, sharp liquid eyeliner lines. They can look unnatural. For more a youthful an natural look, try drawing on a thin line of cream or pencil eyeliner on your upper lid and gently smudge it out a little bit. If you have light hair, use a brown pencil; dark hair uses black.
4. Less Is More When It Comes To Eyeshadow
No one looks good with caked on, heavy eyeshadow, no matter how old or young you are. However, as you get older, a lot of eyeshadow pigment on your lids can make you look dated. Opt for lighter, more subtle hues that blend well. Apply them with a light hand for a glowing look.
