Round faces are forever youthful looking and, if this is your face shape, it’s a good idea to embrace how beautifully unique you are. With that said, when you are deciding on a new hairstyle or cut, taking your cues from celebrities with similarly shaped faces is a great way to envision how the style might look on you. In the case of a rounder face, you may be forever chasing ways to make it look like your face has more definition and angles. We have just the trick for you: this is the life-changing layered hairstyle celebrity stylists swear by for round faces (and we’re trying this one immediately).

If there’s one celebrity who comes to mind when we think of hair styles for round faces it’s Selena Gomez — a a style icon who always gets it right. "I think Selena Gomez is the perfect example of a round face with a life-changing layered hairstyle,” says Celebrity Hair Designer Emilio Uribe. “Layers are the best hairstyle for women with round faces as the layers add more definition to one's face and overall style. A great stylist should be able to guide you accordingly, to achieve the best look for you, based on your request of how you would like to have your hair cut and styled - while keeping in mind your face shape (and also keeping in consideration how you style your hair on a day-to-day basis).”

Holly Dear, an expert hairstylist from House Of Dear Hair Salon in Dallas, agrees that Gomez has the perfect layered style for round faces.

“Selena Gomez’s layered bob is a great example of a layered cut that keeps the vertical panels in the front to add length to the roundness in her face,” Dear says. “It also allows body and movement through the interior of the shape.”  The cut works so well on round faces because Dear says: “The vertical panels in the front give your face length along with the way the layers set in the crown to lift the shape up for your profile.”

It’s important to know how to speak to your stylist when you’re requesting this cut, though (bringing photos never hurts, either). “It is important for the length to be determined with each individuals hair texture and neck line,” Dear says. “Where the neck get the skinniest before moving into the shoulder area is a great guide to where you want your bob to set. Then an over directed layer is put internally to help you get weight distribution balanced out while keeping the vertical panels around your face.”

If you’ve always wondered which hairstyles and cuts aren’t among stylists’ favorites for round faces, Uribe’s vote is for very short haircuts or styles that are cut past your shoulders with very few layers. “This can make your face look bigger,” Uribe says.

And Dear says to avoid cuts that are round in shape. “Any hair cut that frames the face with a rounded focus point — like a rounded fringe or a mop shape from the 70’s,” Dear says.

Long layers, vertical panels, and strategic bobs, ala Selena Gomez, are right on point for bringing out the beauty in your round face.
