When you bite into what appears to be fried chicken, you don’t expect there to be ice cream on the inside—and you also don’t expect that ice cream to be contaminated with listeria. Unfortunately, that may be the case with Life Raft Treat’s chicken wing-shaped Not Fried Chicken ice cream bars, which they have issued a recall for, along with their Life Is Peachy treats. Life Raft Treat Recalls Not Fried Chicken and Life Is Peachy products

Life Raft Treats, a Charleston-based ice cream company that specializes in quirkily shaped treats, has issued a voluntary recall on their Not Fried Chicken ice cream bars and Life Is Peachy "fruit bombs" due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Health officials first alerted the company about listeria contamination on Sept. 5, when a batch of Not Fried Chicken ice cream tested positive. Later testing of additional batches showed more potential contamination. Life Is Peachy treats, which were manufactured in the same room, are being recalled out of caution.

Recalled 64-ounce boxes of Not Fried Chicken, Not Fried Chicken Bars, and Life Is Peachy treats will have best by dates up to and including 8/28/24. These products were first shipped directly to customers via goldbelly.com on Aug. 28, 2023.

"We are taking every precaution for the health of our customers. We continue to investigate to determine and address the source of contamination and are working closely with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control," Life Traft Treats wrote on their website. "All production of new products is suspended until this issue is fully resolved."

If you have any questions or concerns, you can email [email protected] or contact the company by phone at 843-695-9806, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm EST.

As noted by the recall statement, Listeria infections can be fatal to young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Possible symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths and pregnant women. Other recent recalls due to listeria include European cheese, kiwis, and various frozen fruits.

Staying on top of the latest recalls is an important part of keeping you and your family healthy and safe. Luckily, SheFinds has you covered.
