The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a recall notice for certain Wegmans butter products sold across the United States due to the fact that they may be contaminated with a dangerous bacteria called listeria.
The recall notice states that Epicurean Butter LLC has recalled their Wegmans Lemon Dill Finishing Butter that came from 12 lots because a listeria outbreak may be linked back to the dill in the product. Yikes! Here’s everything you need to know:
Wegmans Lemon Dill Finishing Butter May Be Contaminated With Listeria
Epicurean Butter told consumers that their herb supplier warned them of a listeria outbreak that could be linked back to the frozen dill found in Wegmans Lemon Dill Finishing Butter. “Certain lots of frozen dill could potentially be contaminated with listeria based upon a test from one of the supplier’s food manufacturing customers in Canada that used the ingredient in one of their finished products,” their statement reads.

The affected items were sold at Wegmans stores across seven states: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia (plus Washington, D.C.), and North Carolina. If you live in one of these locations and recently purchased the possibly contaminated item, simply check the lot code and “Best By” date.
The following lots are included in the recall: 16314, 16357, 16438, 16536, 16619, 16702, 16722, 16761, 16797, 16829, 16902, and 17037. Each produce will have a "Best By" date between 07/05/22 and 11/17/22.
Listeria is a harmful parasite that can be especially dangerous for pregnant women, and can become fatal in children, elderly people, and people with compromised immune systems. Symptoms include headache, fever nausea, diarrhea, and more.
Luckily, no illnesses have been reported. However, if you have a recall product, the FDA says it should not be consumed and should instead be returned to the store for a full refund.
