Katy Perry Announces She Won't Be Returning For Another Season Of 'American Idol'

Katy Perry has been a judge on American Idol for seven seasons now, but apparently hadn't formed enough of a bond with her fellow judges to let them know that she would be leaving the show before announcing it on live television.

"I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol," Katy told Jimmy Kimmel while appearing on his late night show. "I mean I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying Jimmy?"

Katy told fans that she's gearing up to make new music, and while many fans are more than ready to for some new hits from the 39-year-old, others are confused as to why she can't do both–Luke Bryan does it!

Luke Bryan Reveals How He Found Out That Katy Perry Is Leaving 'American Idol'

After Katy Perry made her announcement back in February, many fans looked to Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie to see what their reactions would be. While Richie reacted publicly just a few days later on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, saying, "I'm not mad," he said. "It just made me run off the road when I first heard about it,” he joked. “My phone blew up."

Luke Bryan, however, only recently shared his thoughts on Perry's departure, speaking to Taste of Country. He noted that he's going to miss her "unconditionally," though it wasn't a "huge shock."

"I had heard whispers that she was thinking about it—it wasn't like it was a huge shock I think she kinda just got caught up in the moment with Kimmel and just announced that she was done."

"It’s been a good run with Katy, and she and I have developed a great friendship and to work alongside her," he continued. The two have served as judges together since 2018. "It’s just really been fun getting to know Katy."

Many fans are now asking the question of who will replace Katy next season. We've heard rumblings about Jennifer Lopez, but for now, we're soaking up every last minute of Katy!
