Madewell’s bestselling jeans are known for being extremely flattering, and the company’s denim buy-back program is unbeatable–so we were shocked when the company released even more big news about their jeans this week!
The store revealed that they are on track for having a whopping 90% of their denim to be Fair trade Certified by 2025. This is incredible!
Madewell has been working with Fair Trade USA for the past year, selling selling Fair Trade Certified products, and they just expanded to 9 new denim styles this week!
In addition to the new Fair Trade styles, they’ve opened new Fair Trade Certified factories and plan to roll out even more women’s and men’s products this year.
ICYMI, Fair Trade USA ensures secure working conditions and equal economic opportunities for everyone who works in them. So when you buy a pair of Madewell x Fair Trade USA jeans, you know that they’ve been made in an environment where workers are empowered to generate and sustain lasting impact at work, at home and in their communities. We’ll shop to THAT!
And it’s not just improved working conditions–the factories are focused on sustainability as well. Using renewable energy sources, washing efficiently, air dying and even using the factory waste to make bricks for affordable housing, are all focuses at the plants. They’re also zero-discharge, have reduced their energy consumption by 13 million kilowatts of power per year (that’s the equivalent of taking 2,000 cars off the road) and support building houses for people in need in their community.
