From her famous cone bra to the iconic “Vogue” dance, Madonna has been making headlines throughout her career. But not all headlines have been positive…
While she is currently garnering negative attention for her rumored plastic surgery treatments and alleged love of Photoshop, she has also got fans talking following a recently resurfaced interview from the nineties in which she called some of her fans “fat” and “unattractive” among other things.

Madonna Recalls Meeting ‘Unattractive Social Outcasts’ Who She Deems ‘Horrible To Look At’ In 1991 Interview
In a resurfaced interview with the Washington Post, which was conducted way back in 1991 and shared on X earlier this month, the 66-year-old “Popular” singer is discussing interactions with her fans. Madonna tells the interviewer about how she feels when she meets fans in public, including the more “obsessive fanatics” who she doesn’t feel as comfortable with meeting.
“I don’t mind when people come up to me in a restaurant and go, ‘God, I think you’re great.’ I love that. It’s the obsessive fanatics whose attention seems very hostile,” the “Material Girl” hitmaker explained, before going on to make offensive comments.
“It’s beyond admiration. It’s very crazy… it’s always fat people, too,” she continued, adding: “They are the most unattractive social outcasts, like really overweight girls or guys with lots of acne that follow me around and pester me.” She concluded: “It’s frightening because not only are they bothering me but they’re horrible to look at, too.”
Internet Reactions
As expected, the resurfaced interview caused quite the stir online. "This statement is tragic. At least, unlike her, the fans don't have to rent their partners and don't have their faces and bodies completely stuffed with plastic," quipped one fan in the comments section of a Daily Mail article about the comments. "Her shallowness is appalling," slammed a second fan.
"How nice of her. They buy your music and turn up to your shows and you start an hour or two late. But just because they aren't made into Hollywood pretty they disgust you?" wrote a third, as a fourth added: "She has obviously forgotten that it's people like that that have made her a fortune."
"Whether it's an old or new interview, Madonna's attitude has always been abysmal," wrote another, as someone else asked: "How does she still have fans? She's rude, always hours late for concerts, constantly showing her bits on social media and now you see how she really feels. She had talent back in the day but now it's time she retires out of the limelight."
"Wow, she sounds like a really ungrateful and horrible person. Whether it's true is not the point! These people look up to her and have made her who she is today. Without them, she would be nothing," wrote another. "I used to be a HUGE fan of Madonna," wrote another, adding: "Now I cannot stand her due to her rants and rudeness." "A truly horrible person," said another.
"Good grief has she looked at herself lately?" questioned another fan. "Haha! Karma had her address because she's truly the scary one now!" exclaimed another. "Look in the mirror Madge," said another reader. "Says plasticine face," criticized another.
