During the opening night of her postponed and long-awaited ‘Celebration Tour,’ Madonna opened up to her fans about her recent hospitalization. The Grammy winner, 65, stressed how serious her sickness was, and shared that she had contemplated the possibility of death as a result of the bacterial infection that caused her to be hospitalized.
“I didn’t think I was gonna make it,” the Queen of Pop told the audience at her October 14th concert at the O2 Arena in London, England. “I forgot five days of my life — or death, I didn’t really know where I was,” she added.
The “Holiday” hitmaker praised her six children for helping her get through the difficult and tumultuous time. “My children were there — and my children always save me every time,” she sweetly added. The “Popular” singer went on, sharing more about her mindset when she was sick: “I have got to be there for my children – I have to survive for them.”
Multiple reports suggest that Madonna was discovered in an unresponsive state during her rehearsals in New York for her current world tour. The tour was originally scheduled to commence in July but was delayed until October due to the alarming health scare she experienced.
Two months following her “several-day stay in the ICU,” the “La Isla Bonita” artist impressively picked up where she left off and returned to her tour rehearsal schedule, according to an insider, OK! Magazine reports.
The source allegedly added at the time: “She is very much still in recovery, but Madonna has been chomping at the bit to get back to rehearsals. Not only has she hired the Coliseum in New York but she’s also hired out a second venue in London for the final week of dress rehearsals.”
Prior to embarking on her eagerly awaited tour, Madonna took to Instagram to discuss her hospitalization in a post for her 19.2 million followers. “Love from family and friends is the best Medicine. One month out of the hospital and I can reflect,” she wrote on July 30th.
After surviving the serious illness, the style icon also celebrated her birthday in a grandiose manner on Friday, August 18th. “It’s great to be Alive and Amazing to Be able to put on my dancing shoes and Celebrate my Birthday!” she captioned her post. She also uploaded a clip of herself having a blast with her family and friends for her big day. “I’m So Grateful. Thank you Lisbon and to all who made it possible!”
Madonna’s fans have been expressing support and sharing well wishes for her ever since her hospitalization. Now, many are also taking to social media to commend and congratulate her on the start of her next epic tour around the world.
“Best show I’ve seen ever in my life, so inspiring! Thank you,” one commented on Instagram following Madonna’s recent performance. Another added, regarding her long and “admirable” career despite health hardships: “After 40 years Madonna still living her best life and selling out arenas.”
