"What happened to her face she is not Madonna anymore it's like another person," said another fan. "Now she is Barbie like the doll, she is a doll like it or not," someone else commented. "Her plastic surgeon should be sued," another fan quipped, while someone else clarified that they were "not a Madonna hater at all," but thought "the plastic surgery job is one of the worst to be done to a once beautiful woman."
"Gosh! What the [expletive] did you do to your face?" asked another fan followed by a crying emoji. "Would not know that was Madonna unless someone told me so tragic," noted another fan. "Her surgeon did her so dirty," criticized another.
Fan Reactions To Madonna's Appearance In 'The Celebration Tour' Promo Videos
On April 6th and April 13th, Madonna shared some videos with her 18.9M Instagram followers to promote The Celebration Tour. And akin to her Mexico announcement above, although many fans commented about their excitement to see the music icon on tour again, many, many others couldn’t move past her appearance, which one fan called "scary" and many others once again deemed simply unrecognizable. The April 6th video shows behind-the-scenes footage of the "Back That Up To The Beat" singer – who is still sporting her long, red, curly hair, which also divided fans in the comments section – and her team rehearsing for the upcoming tour. Commenting on the video, one fan said, "I wish she would go back to her old face," while another asked, "What happened to her face?" adding, "She is so different, scary looking."
"It’s legit not even her face anymore," commented another fan. "Who is this?" asked another fan, while another asked, "What happened to Madonna?" "Where is Madonna? Kidnapped. This not Madonna for me," wrote another disappointed fan.
The comments about her appearance continued in the April 13th video too, which was a compilation of recent pictures of herself performing. "The first thing she needs to do is fix her face," someone wrote in the comments section. "She never learns her lesson! Continues to use filters to look 30 then gets seen out in public and calls the world ageist," quipped another. "Madonna ruined Madonna," another fan commented, while someone else simply said, "That can’t be Madonna."
Previous Concerns About Madonna's Appearance
Madonna's appearance has been a hot topic of discussion for a while now. Back in April 2022, one fan said she looked "completely unsettling" while another begged her to "get help" following a TikTok video she posted of a closeup of her face. Fans were also puzzled by her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in August, which she appeared on to promote her compilation record, Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones.
The "Vogue" singer also caused huge concern among her fans when she shared pictures on Instagram from both Thanksgiving and Christmas respectively, with several fans likening her to a Bratz Doll, while she was also likened to "Tainted Love" singer Marilyn Manson in October when she shared a video of herself with shorter baby pink hair and minimal makeup. And of course who can forget her internet-breaking appearance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in February this year, where her appearance gained *so much* negative attention the "Like a Virgin" singer felt the need to issue a response to it!
If you'll recall, the seven-time Grammy winner posted a message on Twitter on February 7th, alongside a recent picture of herself, which partly read: "The world is threatened by my power and my stamina. My intelligence and my will to survive. But they will never break me. This is all the test." In a separate message on Instagram that same day, she noted how "many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face!!"
She also said: "I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start. I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come. In the words of Beyonce, 'You won’t break my soul.' I look forward to many more years of subversive behavior – pushing boundaries – standing up to the patriarchy – and most of all enjoying my life."
Interestingly, the "Frozen on Fire" singer confessed to plastic surgery later that month, sharing a new picture of herself on Twitter wearing a black baseball cap with her hair styled in several braids with the caption: "Look how cute I am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol."
