Rumors have been circulating about the “Royal Rift” for a couple of years now. It’s hard to imagine that Prince William and Prince Harry could be involved in a feud, but there seems to be growing evidence that the tension between the brothers is real.
Like many famous feuds, it all begins with a girl. In this case, it was Meghan Markle. Royal reporter Katie Nicholl said an inside source told her that the bothers had a falling out Christmas of 2018. Harry told his brother, William, he wasn’t doing enough to include Meghan in the royal family.
According to Katie’s source, “Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so. They had a bit of a fall-out, which was only resolved when Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort. That’s when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes to spend Christmas with them.” During that time, rumors were floating around about how Meghan and Kate were not getting along. The focus was solely on the wives for so long, that Harry and William’s relationship was mostly ignored.
William was concerned that his brother’s and Meghan’s relationship moved too quickly. Being the older brother and his brother’s closest confidant, he expressed his concern. Although it was probably meant to be well-intentioned advice, Harry viewed it as a criticism of his union to Meghan. Given all the tabloid coverage of his and Meghan’s relationship before and after their marriage, Harry’s disappointment is understandable.
Supposedly, the brothers’ relationship has been strained ever since. With Harry and Meghan leaving the U.K. and giving up their roles as senior members of the royal family at the beginning of this year, it’s hard to imagine that the brothers have mended their relationship. However, now that Harry is in the U.S., he seems to be leaning on his brother more to stay connected to his homeland. Perhaps a little distance is all the two really needed.
