When you search around for makeup tips you may be dismayed to find that SO many of them focus on topics like how to get bigger, rounder eyes, fuller-looking lips, and sculpted cheeks, with the assumption being that you are starting out with the features of a 19 year old. Sure, there’s the occasional tidbit for older women about avoiding purple and matte red lipstick like the plague, but if you’re looking for more advice it often comes up short. If you are concerned about aging, you may be interested in finding out how to make your skin look tighter and more lifted and your eyes brighter and more alert. Makeup Expert Rosi Ross spoke to SHEFinds.com about the five best makeup tips for sagging skin that you should know — these tips will create a fresher, more modern look and will brighten your appearance within minutes.
Avoid Powder Foundation
Possibly the number one most important makeup tip for fresh, youthful skin? Avoid drying powders at all costs. “Use liquid and cream-based makeup: as the skin ages powders will make more creases on the skin, the ideal product base is water base, waxes, and cream,” Ross says. “These makeup bases will make the skin look smoother, also will be more nutritious to the skin, and will avoid creating the effect of creases or patches. Also, it is better to pick eyeshadows in gel form and moisturizing concealers as the coverage runs more smooth.”
Remember To Moisturize Lips
“Use moisture on the lips and base before makeup: to decrease the lip wrinkles use a good moisturizer or lip balm and then apply primer on the lips before adding lipstick — this will make the lips look more smooth,” Ross says. “Avoid using matte dry lipsticks as this looks drier on the lips and creases are more visible.”
Stop Plucking Your Brows
Avoid the temptation to pluck away at too many stray brow hairs because denser brows are one key to a more youthful appearance. “One of the most common things when people age is the eyebrow details, usually there is less care in this area,” Ross says. “But keeping the eyebrows groomed and well done at any age will make the face have more structure and it will also make the face look more stylized.”
Curl Your Lashes
Before you apply mascara, don’t neglect a step that will make a huge difference: curl your eyelashes. “Curling the eyelashes at any age is amazing to keep bright eyes, as we age the eyes tend to look more tired, and giving them a hint of curling will make them look big, more open, and alive,” Ross says. “A simple tip is to add mascara on both upper and lower eyelashes, curl both sides to the eyes to look wide open.”
Use The Right Lip Color
This doesn’t necessarily mean you should red lipstick altogether, but keep in mind that there are many different variations on a single shade and finding the lip color with undertones that complement your skin tone is key to a better look. “Colors can make or break and age so if you are using any kind of lipstick make sure to use a color that complements your skin, usually, colors can cause some effect like brightening the look, making the hair look darker, or making a full-face look too strong, make sure you know which colors complement well your skin so you can always look younger,” Ross says.
