Margot Robbie as Barbie— can you think of a more perfect casting? Fans are more than ecstatic to see another glimpse of the Oscar nominee while filming the forthcoming feature that centers around the iconic doll.

Earlier this week, images emerged on social media of Robbie rocking an all-pink costume while on the Barbie set— including a low-cut tank top, bell-bottom pants with a star pattern, a bandana tied around her neck, and her long blonde hair styled into loose waves.

In other recently leaked snaps, we can see Robbie in this same outfit filming scenes with co-star Ryan Gosling as Ken (and his cowboy look is just as epic!) The Suicide Squad alum appeared to sip on an iced coffee between takes and donned a get-up we’ve surely seen Barbie dolls wear before.

Just days before these pics went viral, fans also got their first look at Gosling as Ken— posing shirtless in a denim vest, showing off his washboard abs and platinum blonde tresses. Talk about a dynamic duo!

Back in April, Warner Brothers offered the first official look at Robbie in the iconic and beloved role for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film and fans on Twitter are still freaking out, to say the least.
In the very first image, we saw Robbie as the character based on the legendary doll and children’s toy and it was just as great (if not better!) than what we expected. The Birds of Prey star, 31, is seated behind the wheel of a pink convertible and all smiles for the camera. She is wearing a striped blue-and-white halter top with a matching bracelet and polka-dot headband holding her bouncy, flowing blonde locks in place.

Fans on social media are still expressing their excitement to see Barbie come to life with a star-studded cast, including Gosling as Ken (another spot-on choice, might we add) and the film will also star Will Ferrell, America Ferreira, Michael Cera, Insecure alum Issa Rae, SNL‘s Kate McKinnon, Sex Education‘s Emma Mackey and Marvel’s Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu, among others. “Margot Robbie is the perfect choice for Barbie! Gorgeous!” wrote one fan on Twitter while another added, “This movie is going to be amazing I can just feel it.”

Film enthusiasts are also looking forward to the script, storyline and live-action adventure from director Gerwig, known for her Oscar-nominated films Lady Bird and Little Women as well as her starring roles in independent and acclaimed films such as Frances Ha and Greenberg. “I can’t wait to see the spin Gerwig takes on this,” wrote one fan while another commented that the film will “probably pay homage to the many jobs, roles and accomplishments” we’ve seen Barbie pull off in the character’s different animated movies, doll toys throughout history, etc.

Last August, Robbie sat down for an interview with British Vogue to discuss taking on such a popular character, the expectations she felt from fans, and how she was then preparing for the role. Robbie explained that the character “comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of nostalgic connections,” and added that “with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it.”

“People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t,'” Robbie said. Gerwig’s partner Noah Baumbach, (director of films such as Marriage Story and The Squid and The Whale) is co-writing the script with her, and production for the film began earlier this year. Barbie will zoom into theaters with her pink car on July 21, 2023.
