Harley Quinn fans, grab the tissues because Margot Robbie just revealed that she doesn’t have any current plans to reprise the role after James Gunn’s Suicide Squad film is released this summer. The 31-year-old actress, who has now played the role of Harley Quinn three times, spoke with Entertainment Weekly, sharing that while she has enjoyed the challenge, she feels it’s time to give herself a break.

Robbie told EW, “It was kind of back-to-back filming Birds... and filming this, so I was kind of like, oof, I need a break from Harley because she's exhausting. I don't know when we're next going to see her. I'm just as intrigued as everyone else is."

Robbie began her role as the charming and intriguing villain Harley Quinn in 2016 when she starred in the first Suicide Squad film alongside Jared Leto, revealing Quinn’s origin story and the tormented love story the pair shared. 2020 then saw the release of Birds of Prey, a film focusing solely around Quinn as the chaotic and heartbroken main character.

The actress also spoke with EW about DC comics and how each film has the freedom to portray villains differently and create a variety of endings. At the end of Zack Snyder’s 4 hour and 2 minute long film Justice League, Quinn was said to have died in Batman’s arms, to which Robbie had a dramatic reaction after the interviewer revealed her character’s fate. “Whaaat? I didn't know that. [Laughs] Thank you for telling me!"

However, she continued, “The film version of the DC universe, I actually think they're a lot like the comics. You pick up one comic and something's happening and then you pick up the next comic and maybe that character's not alive, maybe that character's not with that person, maybe that character looks completely different. Each movie is its own sort of thing, and I think that works in the comic book world, and I think that works in the DC film world as well.”
