During May of 2014, Maria Menounos left Extra after three long years of hosting to join the team at E!. Maria left and signed a multi-year contract with the network, which included both talent and production roles.
Earlier in 2014, The New York Daily News reported that Giuliana wanted to focus on the Rancic family restaurants in Chicago with Bill, but that changed quickly when Giuliana heard news of Maria, “started sniffing around for a role” on E! [Photo: Instagram]
During the time Maria was signing her contract, Giuliana’s surrogate had a miscarriage which lead Guiliana to sign another contract with E! extending her time at the network to at least April 2016. [Photo: Instagram]
“Maria wishes G had left like planned,” says a source from E!. “She really wants to be the face of the network and that’s what she was counting on."
“Maria and Giuliana also share the same agent. And they are definitely a bit competitive. G has the perfect husband, a top anchor gig and a hit reality show (‘Giuliana and Bill’), and Maria is just newer to the network and has a budding reality show,” explained a source from The New York Daily News. Giuliana told various sources that she “wishes Maria the best” and thinks there’s room for both women at the network. “G would never be dramatic or cause problems at work, she is a pro and she’s been there for years,” A source from E!. “Maria just has to find her groove, and hopefully her ratings pick up.”
She’s also not going to feel like she was pushed out of a network she helped make a success,” an insider said of Giuliana. “Of course Maria wants to be the face of E! News, but that’s Giuliana’s job now at least for another year. Giuliana is the queen of E! She’s also been honest about wanting to move on at some point, so it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.” [Photo: Instagram]
“Maria was hired as a potential replacement for Giuliana, when Giuliana told the network that she wasn’t planning to stay on after her last contact expired,” the source said.
